hey all i have an 03 600 frame that i want to to put a 1000 motor into and make it a track bike,1/4 track. i found a gixxer frame with a motor at a junkyard, i know its my same model year style, 00-03 depending on what it is but i think it might be 01-02 1000, what character in the vin# is the engine. what is a 600, 750, 1000, also what mods have to be done to the frame for a 1000 to fit a 600 frame. isnt a 1000 a little wider? thanks you are always informative.

not sure about the frame mods but this site should help with engine id. scroll down to engine code a little more than half way down. I know 750 is R7 so the first two on the motor. a 1000 should be U7 ect. If im wrong someone will correct me

the 01-03 engine codes?

600: N723-xxxxxx, the clutch cover is 2800ml

750: R--------?? partially unknown, i am working on gathering this info

1000: T708-xxxxxx, the clutch cover is 3000 ml

and the 01-03 600's vin number should start out as JS1GN7BA....

this question comes up a lot and i am trying to gather the Y2K+ 600/750/1000 identification info

A VIN decoder should help you figure out what the engine size is. The 1000 engine (from the same generation) isn't any wider, but it is taller so modifications need to be made to the front motor mounts - old ones cut or ground off and new ones welded on. There is a guy on gixxer.com that has a pretty good tutorial on that swap with pictures.

write down the vin number and call an insurance co for a quote theyll tell u for sure  thats what i did when i bought my motor off ebay to check

really?

when i first got my bike i called my insurance company to put insurance on it and i gave them the VIN and all the other info they asked for. they asked me what size engine my bike had, so i told them 599cc and asked why they asked me. they said that they could not tell the engine size from the VIN. :headscrat

who do u have? call around and tell them theres no motor size on the bike or title
they have to be able to pull up everything about ur bike thru the vin cause they research the title from the vin, they prob just wouldnt tell u some r weird like that

i made this thread on the "other" forum and thought i would put it here too.

I have been trying to research some identification info for the y2k generation. there is also a VIN decoder site that you can use, but i wanted to put all of it together in one thread. let me know if any info is incorrect.

engine codes on middle case and oil capacity as stamped on clutch cover

600: N723-xxxxxx, the clutch cover is 2800ml

750: R737-xxxxxx, the clutch cover is 2800ml

1000: T708-xxxxxx, the clutch cover is 3000 ml

engine number location

VIN

2001-03 600 VIN starts JS1GN7BA

2000-03 750 VIN starts JS1GR7HA

2001-2002 1000 VIN starts JS1GT74A
