I am experiencing a knocking noise on my 01 gsxr 750. sound seems to be coming from around the front sprocket area.
Now, i changed my chain and front sprocket and still no cure.
noise only noticeable when rear tire is off the ground, freely spinning in 1st gear, sounds like it is something internal. when the knock occurs the chain slightly jerks like a sprocket is missing a tooth and it is slipping (thats why i changed the sprocket and chain).
when im riding i cant hear it or really feel it, even w/ helmet off closely listening.
any inputs or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thats normal. It's just the chain binding a bit due to lack of load on the rear tire. The momentum of the rear wheel spins faster than the chain and causes that symptom.
If it happens while you're riding that's another story though.

i know this is old but im havig the same issue on a 01 also but if u rev it in neutral on a stand it sounds like it catches the front sprocket and clunks. it also makes the sound if its on the ground also. i do know the chain is bad. but that dont expalin how it does it nuetral on a stand. i have been told its a clutch or clutch
changed the clutch, sprockets and chain and the oil again. helped some what. but i found a peice of metal in the oil almost looked like a tooth off a gear. i just going to ride the bike till it blows and then put in a used motor. idk if its worth rebuilding i dont know what that metal all tore up and i can get a used motor for 800 or so. how much time does it take to swap out a motor.
