R6 recall!!
anybody heard about the new r6 recall??? they are offering a full refund becasue they really dont redline at 17,500 hahahaha they only redline at 16,500 my buddy has one and hes gettin his money back, not because 1,000 rpms is that big of a deal its just the point that they hyped that bike so much but anyways the new gsxr 600 will destroy the r6

per the yamaha website:
2006 YZF-R6 Red Line Limit
Yamaha introduced and marketed the new 2006 YZF-R6 motorcycle with a red line limit of 17,500 RPM, as indicated on the tachometer.
After testing production units, we have determined that the actual red line limit is approximately 16,000 RPM, resulting in a tachometer error of roughly 9%. This has no affect whatsoever on the performance of the motorcycle.
Our goal is to ensure your satisfaction, both now and in the future. We would like to sincerely apologize for this error and any inconvenience it may have caused you and also to thank you for your continued support of Yamaha.

no actually this is a huge fuck up by the R & D of yamaha. i'm sure quite a few people will get canned over this one. as far as the gsxr kicking the shit out of the r6, that's probably true, but my .02 is the the yamaha still looks better

think someone posted it already....
Buts not really a recall. It's a yamaha buyback. Bascially the tach is off. So even though this new finding of the redline actually being at 16,000, it won't effect anything except for the braggin' rights of having a 17,500 redline. Yamaha is soooo sure you will be satisfied with your R6, that if your not...they will buy back your R6 in full ammount, everything you paid including tax, interest and fee's you had to pay. But there is a cut off day. But of course it really only applies to people who bought there R6 prior to this notice.
So yamaha made a mistake and are sucking up to it. Either that is great as hell customer service Or they did this to cover there ass incase someone found out before they did and the legal precussions woulda been HUUUUUUUUGE.
PS. I hate that fucking Hyundai guy that says It's HUUUUUUUUUGE LA, HUUUUUUUUUUGE. So i have no freakin' clue to why I just said it.
Know a guy in WSMC. Got a chance to ride the new R6. His impression, its SLOOOW (possibly the fly by wire technology?). But the handling on it is amazing. Its like riding a "magic carpet" he said. Oh and during a couple practices there was a Factory Suzuki GSX-R pulling hard on him on the straights. And he was just thinkin the whole time, man that gsxr 1000 is fast. After the race goes over to the paddock, only to find out its the new gsxr 600. Said they managed to crank out over 135whp on the thing. Of course it wasn't stock, but maybe this is a good sign, the gsxr 600 will be taking over the AMA like how the 1k is in superbike. Oh yea, he's currently racing on an 05 zx-10.

No, the R&D guys (engineers) knew exactly how fast the engine would rev. It's the advertisers that should be gettting canned for this screwup. They wrote the ad copy, not the engineers...
As for looking better, have you seen one? Even a picture of one? They look hideous. The side fairing bit looks like it was just stuck on with doube-sided tape as an accidental afterthought. And the license plate hanger looks even worse. And lets not forget the odd-looking ram air intake... Better looking? Maybe if you're on crack...

I likem' if I hadn't found my gix I would have one in my garage. Not a new one though....all simply because of the headlight change-IMO they took a big dukey on the cosmetics with that change.
I guess in reality there isn't a make/model I hate so maybe I'm not the guy to give a great opinion besides the F4I I'm not a big fan of them..maybe cause the 600rr also another favorite that gets me a little excited

i like the look. Not as much as the gixxer of course. The gixxer by far I think looks better.
I did see the R6 in person. Was riding on the street at night and two guy's passed by when I was waiting at a light. Followed them for a while and was wondering what the hell was that yellow yamaha he was on? Looked brand new, dealer plates. Couldn't see the exhaust the bike looked skinny as hell. I almost thought it was a dirt bike or possible a dual sport bike, but I thought, can't really be a dirt bike unless he's on the street illegal, and I can barely hear the exhaust...super quiet.
Well they turn off to make a left and wave me by as I past them, I take a glance and look behind as I pass and its the new R6! That freakin' thing is tiny! And from back of the bike, it looks really skinny, not like a sportbike at all. The guy just looked huge on the bike. I was kinda shocked. Doesn't look mean at all.

Either way somebody got canned, but I don't think I would put a 17.5k tach on a bike that I knew the engine wouldn't do. (I don't think the advertisers have anything to do with that. As far as looks go on the 2006 bikes, i'm really not impressed with any of them. Hooray to suzuki for whay they did with the exhaust on the 600 and 750, but look at the side fairings on them, they look like shit. Plus the blinkers on the mirrors looks great, oh wait it looks stupid. But to each their own. Oh wait, I don't agree with your opinion, I must be on crack. People have different tastes, try and respect that.

Does this mean that they can be had cheap used with little miles on them?
I used to have an R6 and I wouldn't mind getting another one for trackdays and trips to Deals Gap.

Have you watched any of the AMA SUPERSPORT RACES latly?
Suzuki can't keep up with that new R6...
I think the new GSXR600 is a awesome bike ..but the fact is they are not doing much on the race track.

I've got the 06 R6.. love it on the track; not as much fun on the street. I wouldn't mind checking out a gsxr 600 (currently have an 03 750). maybe if I like it, I'll sell my R6 back to Yamaha and get the gixxer.
