Default O' No!!!!! Wtf

Here we go again.

Columnist Brian Dickerson, in yesterday’s edition of the Detroit Free Press, is the latest to call for motorcyclists to be de-facto organ donors. What’s worse, he suggests that injured motorcyclists not be given medical treatment at all.

In writing about the pending repeal of Michigan’s mandatory helmet law, Dickerson says, “If only lawmakers had thought to add a requirement that all helmet-less cyclists agree to donate their organs. And why not require donorcyclists to sign papers declining extraordinary lifesaving measures, so that deserving organ recipients aren't kept waiting unnecessarily?”

Dickerson doesn’t stop there. He lumps motorcyclists in with “champions of the right to die,” including shameless and insulting references to Jack Kevorkian and Terri Schiavo.

We’ve seen this sort of hysterical, uninformed opinion before, of course. Last September, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg characterized riders as organ donors in a column headlined "Hop on a motorcycle, fill out your donor card” -- and your e-mails to Mr. Steinberg prompted him to admit in a later column that he wrote without knowing the facts. Earlier, the AMA joined motorcyclists nationwide in defeating actual legislative proposals in New Mexico and California that would’ve required motorcyclists to be organ donors.

But by suggesting that injured motorcyclists be left to die, Dickerson has set an all-time low -- and the AMA has told him so. If you’d like to let him know how you feel, you can reach him at dicker@freepress.com. :2hard

Well you guy's I emailed this total asshole and let him know exactly what I thought of him! You know alot of bad shit happens to motorcyclist out on the highway that IS NOT OUR FAULT!!!!! Helmet law or not.....this is bullshit!!!! I am so raged at this dude, I mean I have two kid's and a husband if I was left for dead because some cager hit me It would be devistating to everyone in my family....can you even imagine someone thinking this way?????????WTF WTF WTF !!!!!

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO SAY, I AM ALITTLE MIXED UP ABOUT THIS ONE . LET ME SEE, FIRST WHAT HE SAID IS JUST PLAIN STUPID, THIS IS THE LAND OF THE FREE, WE SHOULD BEABLE TO RIDE WITH OUT HELMITS IF WE LIKE, JUST LIKE WE SOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE A CAR WITH NO SEAT BELT (OUR CHOICE). IF WE WISH TO BE ORGON DONERS WE WILL FILL OUT OUR CARDS WITH OUT PERSWATION, AND IF I WAS EVER DENIED MEDICAL HELP MY FAMILY WOULD OWN THE HOSPITAL. AND YES WE CAN GET CRAZY ON THE OUR BIKES BUT MOST OF THE TIME IT IS NOT OUR FAULT THAT WE GO DOWN.

ANY HOW IF HE NEW ANYONE WITH AN ORGON TRANSPLANT HE MAY FEAL DIFF.

CALEB MY SON HE HAD A LIVER TRANSPLANT AND WELL THAT IS BASICLY HOW HE GOT HIS CANCER AND NOW PASSED A WAY, THERE IS A LOT TO BEING TRANSPLANTED AND IT NOT AS SIMPLE AS YOU THINK. HONESTLY I WOULD NEVER WANT ONE I WOULD RATHER PASS. BUT THAT IS HOW I FEAL FROM HAVE BEEN THEIR YOU KNOW ANY HOW I AM A LITTLE ERCED THAT HE WOUDL SAY THINGS LIKE THAT AND THE HOLE PART A BOUT MAKEING IT MANDITORY THAT WOULD START A REVALUTION , THEY TAKE OUR FREEDOM A WAY MORE AND MORE EVERY YR WITH NEW LAWS ON WHAT EVER OR THEY JUST START CHARGEING US FOR IT . IN ANY ASPECT THIS NATION IS DOWN DOWN THE DRAIN WITH THE PEOPLE WE HAVE LEADING IT AND IF WE DO NOT STAND UP AS A HOLE NATION AND TELL THEM TO GET FUCKED WE WILL END UP PAYING 5 DOLLARS FOR GAS AND HAVE TO PUT TRAINING WHEELS ON OUR BIKES.

OR THE GOVERNMENT WILL JUST START REGULATING THE SPEEDS ON CARS OR PUTTING COMPUTER KILL SWITCHES OR SOMETHING , WE WILL ALL BE LINKED WITH BAR CODES ON OUR NECK , ANY HOW ITS SUCK SO FUCK THEM!

How about this, if a car hits a MotorCyclist it is concidered using a gun/act of violence as well as a hate crime. Cause of how most Bikers are hit by car drivers usually intentionally.

your are correct on that. The statistic goes, 80% of accidents involving a car and a motorcycle are the car drivers fault.

ok, 80% of car vs rider is car fault, but i do believe more than 50% of motorcycle accidents is due to rider error.

Anyways, why do fucking people hate motorcycles so much? It seriously blows my mind. People on the street don't respect at all. Like yesterday going home, i'm making a right onto the street, i'm doing about 32 making a right and i'm on the left portion of the lane, as i'm leaning in a car comes up on my ride side making a right also. I was like, wtf??? I think i'm going to start smashing mirrors or pull some fuckers outta a car at a light and beat them down.

I wrote to the jerkoff just now. I know it has been almost 4 months now, but this guy shouldn't be let off this easy. Keep emailing him. Here's what I wrote:

I am writing in regard to your article in the Detroit Free Press. I am appalled by your ignorance and misinformed opinion about motorcyclists. Your article has angered me so much that I have decided to withdraw my option as an organ donor next time i renew my license. And my only hope is that when my time comes, I hope you are awaiting a transplant. I would not want to save a life like yours. In my opinion you are a supreme fucking asshole.
What about smokers? Their cigarette packs have a warning label on them that clearly states the certain dangers. Should they be required to decline chemotherapy and other costly medical treatments as well when they are diagnosed with cancer or emphysema? If you are a smoker, then you are a hypocrite.
Without citing statistics, which you need to look up on your own time since you are obviously so poorly informed, most motorcycle accidents involve a car/truck/van hitting a motorcycle because they are so engrossed with their radio or their fast food, or their 4 screaming kids in the back of their minivan. Not to mention all those of you who talk on your cell phones while driving. Thats another article in itself. Most motorcycle accidents are caused by cars pulling out in front of them, and likewise. So just remember that motorcyclists drive 4 wheeled vehicles too. And we remember people like you. I would not put it past someone in your area to plow through your vehicle intentionally with their truck because of what you carelessly typed. Now that would be an article worth reading, in my own opinion.
In conclusion, you probably thought this article was "water under the bridge", but it will follow you for years to come i'm sure. You owe motorcyclists everywhere a huge apology

Annual Motorcycle Sales Roar Through The One Million Mark
Upward Trend Continues for 12th Consecutive Year

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 21, 2005 – New motorcycle sales continued to climb last year, rising through the one million mark and reaching levels not seen since the 1970s. The Motorcycle Industry Council is currently estimating 2004 two-wheeler sales of nearly 1,050,000, and the upward trend continues as the industry has sold increasing numbers of bikes for the 12th straight year.

Compared with 2003, sales of the major brands last year rose 4.7 percent. Among those 12 brands, cruiser models, sportbikes, touring bikes, traditional (or “naked”) bikes, and dual-purpose bikes led the way in percentage increases. Cruisers remained the top sellers, followed by sportbikes and touring bikes.

“The success of motorcycling over the past twelve years is amazing,” said Larry Little, chairman of the MIC and vice president and publisher of Cycle World magazine. “Through years of economic challenges, veteran riders, new riders, Americans from all walks of life have made motorcycling part of their lives. Our research tells us that today’s motorcyclists tend to have a more optimistic view of life, and that’s played a role in new bike sales.”

“A wider range of Americans are becoming motorcyclists,” said Tim Buche, MIC president. “Women now account for nearly ten percent of owners, more families with kids are out riding dirt bikes, and even more seniors are enjoying two-wheel travel. As motorcycling becomes more and more part of the fabric of mainstream America, with overall consumer confidence on the rise, and with more and more people taking a look at motorcycles as viable transportation and excellent recreation, we are optimistic that the industry will continue its great ride.”

Sales in 2003 hovered at the one million mark, with the MIC reporting most of last year that the total was approximately 996,000. Last month’s final tally of 2003 sales indicated that just over one million units were sold, when small, independent brands were factored in.

Year Total
1992 278,000
1993 293,000
1994 306,000
1995 309,000
1996 330,000
1997 356,000
1998 432,000
1999 546,000
2000 710,000
2001 850,000
2002 936,000
2003 1,001,000
U.S. New Unit Motorcycle Sales – Source: Motorcycle Industry Council

The motorcycle industry last saw this level of success in the 1970s, when baby boomers and their children took to dirt bikes and highly affordable imports, mostly from the major Japanese manufacturers. The year recognized by the MIC as having the highest number of new bike sales is 1973, when Americans purchased more than 1.5 million motorcycles. Before 2003, the last time that motorcycle sales eclipsed one million was 1979.

Sales tapered throughout the 1980s, and reached their nadir in 1992, when roughly 278,000 new motorcycles and scooters found buyers. Today, the industry sells more than that number in dirt bikes alone. Annual motorcycle sales began their sustained rise in 1993, and made huge gains in the latter part of the decade. In 1998, sales jumped 21 percent compared to the previous twelve months. In 2000, the market skyrocketed by 30 percent. Motorcycling witnessed double-digit annual percentage increases between 1998 and 2002.

“So many people at all levels in the motorcycle industry jump-started the business again,” said Ty van Hooydonk, director of product communications for Discover Today’s Motorcycling. “And the motorcycles have greatly improved over the past dozen years. The advances in technology applied to bikes has made them that much more enjoyable, really striking a connection with their riders. Modern materials and methods have opened new doors for styling and design. We’re seeing bikes on the road today that were dream stuff back in the seventies. And there’s a huge array of bikes on the market that appeal to all of the expanding buyer segments. There’s a great bike available, and likely a choice of great bikes, for anyone wanting to ride, regardless of skill level or the type of riding that’s of interest to them.”

During my 3rd year of college I did a report on motorcycle safety. 66% of motorcycle accidents are caused by an automobile driver failing to correctly yield the right of way to the motorcyclist. Fuck him. He should be hit by a semi while driving his car-- and then have his right to extrordinary life saving measures be denied because if he's driving a car in a manner that would allow him to become involved in an accident with a Semi, he's obviously a "champion of the right to die." too. I want him hang out at Sturgis and see how receptive the public with an annual 1,000,000 motorcycle purchasing power is to his ridiculous antics. Moron.

hm...this is disturbing, but similar...was reading in one of the plethora of bike mags about a columnist who suggested carrying pistols so that motorists could shoot punks they saw stunting....I thought about it, and then made a rig to hold my G23C/S under my jacket...I am not playing with these people, next cager that takes a swipe at me intentionally, I am not goin to race up the shoulder any more, this is going to far...one of them makes you feel in danger for your life, check your local laws, but in my state a motorcycle is personal property, and just as if a semi was trying to smash your car on purpose, you can defend your life on a bike...think about it. But in the meantime, I am going to post a video soon of me shooting on the bike, should provide entertainment... my room mate had a nutty idea, and got vids of me shooting my M-16 while on my bike...He's been playing WAY too much san andreas, and wanted to see if it was possible to actually do that shit. It is....not accurately, but enough to scare off a cager...Will post this week

You get ya tool journo's out there who are so far out of touch with reality. Obviously this tool doesn't ride or couldn't ride if his pathetic corpses life depended on it. I know you guys have different laws in diff. states but I'd always wear a helmet. My girlfriends cus died at 40kmh round a bend hit a median strip and hit a piddly tree about 2 inch thick and died from his chest being crushed so imagine if his head hit the gutter with no helmet. I'll send this tool a big two gun salute and make sure he stays in his office. Cos if he ever considers to come down under I'll ring up my local neighbourhood bikie gang to give him an escort from the airport to the cemetery. What a fuckin dickhead!! I can't donate anyway cos I ate meat in the UK during the mad cow scenario. Pretty weird hey? l8r

Ha ha ha, i can't donate blood or organs while living because I was exposed to turburculosis in poland, and had some blood work done in south africa...plus the anthrax shots I got in iraq....but my license says I am a donor...I am sure the recieving party wont want my organs, but all the license they give in Wv say 'organ donor' unless you ask for it not too...

I hope his children and grandchildren start riding someday. I emailed him and asked him if it was a vehicle drivers fault or if they hit us on purpose do they become organ donors also? That guy is a shit hole :2hard :2hard

Man, I've been riding for a few years now. The only accidents I've had were my own fault and in a controlled manner. (Wrecks at stuntin spots.) But when I'm on the road I'm totally cautious. I moved from San Diego, rode all over SoCal, but I've never seen any worse drivers than those in WA. I have to be on my guard all the time. I have never been closer to being wrecked in all my riding years. Then one night up here in Bremerton, WA, I was merging onto the highway, saw a car coming up on the road. I gunned it to get in front of him. Most of us would do it. Well the guy accelerated to keep me from getting in front. So I goosed it and blew past him. So I'm on the road ahead, about a 1/2 mile or so, so I slowed a little. I got off the highway, and next thing I know this guys following me. Of all the things in this guys life, he started chasing me. I really didn't think so at first. I made a turn and he followed me. Then he started getting right on my ass. I'm sure he was trying to run me off the road or something. I said "Enough of this asshole" and gunned it and got away. All I want to do now is carry my gun with me. I'm sure some redneck pulling a stunt like that again, all I have to do is flash a D Eagle .50 at him and he'll think twice. And screw donating my organs. Personally I like them, but I will sell a kidney for the right price. Most of my friends that get in wrecks, it usually some shit like that. No good. These people need to realize we're not out on the road looking to get into shit. That dude that hit the bike with the dad and his kid in WA about five or so months back happened about half a mile away from my girls house. I ride those roads all the time. HE INTENTIONALLY HIT A MAN AND A KID BECAUSE HE WAS MAD THAT HIS GIRLS EX RODE A BIKE. WTF is that. I'd love to ride a wheelie over his vital organs. How can people be so damned ignorant. People are savages. Bikers need to unite and take this into our own hands it seems. Drivers aren't going to learn unless someone pulls them out of their car and fix their driving habits. Alright I'm done venting. Later guys.

I think it's funny how some people actually try to let the world know how stupid they really are. He is a piece of shit human being to wish harm on another person for a reason as lame as "he/she rides a motorcycle". I hope someone shoots this asshole.
