Maybe its geared low and/or different so that it needs the extra rpm's to get the power?

The bike does sound awsome. I was in town this summer, and I found that my 05gsxr6 "STOCK" had a deeper sound than another rider's R6 "STOCK". With that being said, I think that the 06 GSXR 6 would sound better at 17500. After having my 05GSXR6 I wish I had more low end power. (like the 1000's). I mean, yeah the 6 has good power, but it just doesn't have the "romping" tourqe power at low RMP's. You have to wind the piss out of it to get the real power out of it. (WHICH IS FUN) I guess i just need to get the 1000 and have both.

try a sprocket/chain upgrade
going -1 tooth on the front sprocket and maybe +2 teeth on the rear will give some extra "umph" down low....almost gives ya the feel of a 750 around town

I can't believe the sound of anything above 14k... I though my gixxer was mean enough at 13250 this was like nothing I've ever heard!

I read that Yamaha was over stating the redline. It is actualy like 16.8k. Yamaha new this because the on board computer was set to around 16.8. That is some cheesy shit that they would lie about that. I am not taking anything away from the r6 because it is a great bike but yamaha should be truthful.

like it was said earlier, the 17.5K is a load of bullshit, the bikes look nice, but feel like you are siting on a brick. i could see buying one if you were only gonna ride about 20 miles a day, but for anything more than that, you are gonna be way uncomfortable.

anyways, yes, the redline is still like 16.2 to 16.8 or something like that, but the 06 gsxr6 is right at 16K, and at that high of a redline, the tone doesnt change a whole lot in a few hundred rpm's.
