Went down. Sucks. Need opinions..Please.

Well I went down. First off I am ok.. zero damage to me. I was wearing a full leather speed and strenght suit. Gauntlet gloves and boots. Shoie helmet. I'm sore now 2 days later but ok.

It was a cool day only about 60 degrees outside I've been riding for about 45 minutes... met up with the crew... We're going to ride out to the dam here in Tennessee.
I was on a straight away behind a truck doing about 40.mph. in a 55moh zone. so I waited till I saw an opening to go around him.. I was around 70 or so when I passed him. When I merged back over. . as soon as I crossed the yellow line. My back tire slid to the right hard. And all I remember is sliding on the ground. Not sure if it was line or gravel or what.

Bike slid hard down the road and at one point they said went the air born before landing In a ditch.

Bike is a 2006 Gsxr 1000

Well today I have looked over bike. As I work on them a lot. . Besides all plastics shot. Left clip on gone. Right clip on ok but master broken. Stator cover ground down. Fairing stay broke. Head lamp gone. Exhaust dented. And left rear set broke. All else looks ok. Motor runs good. Frame has zero cracks.

I made a list and I'm at around $1800 to fix it. My self. I had full coverage. And am waiting to hear from adjuster. On what they will give me.

What would you all do?. New bike. Or rebuild this bike? . I really love this bike. Lol. What do you think insurance would give me for bike.? What would buy back be? There are 3 damaged pics and one before pic.

Really glad you're ok.
If you're at $1800 in after market parts, to have it repaired at the dealer with OEM parts could run $4000 or more I would think.
The insurance companies used to allow the owner to buy back at a very low price but I don't think they do now.
If you like the bike that much it would be worth looking into.

Ok I'd say wait to see what your insurance offers you, then ask the buy back price and go from there. Then if you can either find another 06 1000 and you have a parts bike or fix her up into a nice streetfighter

I agree but it won't go street fighter. It will go back full super sport. Not sure what they will give me tho. . I know in TN rebuilt title is not a problem. I hope they let me buy it back. But that it's not to much to buy it back. Any idea on how much insurance will give for a 06 1000 with 16k on a guess and what buy back is. Never dealt with insurance before. Plus I gotta buy all new gear ..

I think some policies cover up to a certain amount in gear and accessories. You'd have to check your policy language. Sorry about your mishap but glad to hear you were wearing gear and came out relatively okay.

Glad you're just bruised, sounds like another good gear save.

First off, it is a total write off. Most states require them to total the bike if repairs exceed 60-80% of the value.

Second, the actual cash value the insurance company agrees to is somewhat negotiable. They will consult an NADA or similar price guide but you can also add your own value research. Scour craigslist and other sites and come of with a list of similar bikes and prices. Used bikes have been going up in value and I'm not sure the guides are reflecting that much.

It is up to the insurance company's rules as to whether they offer to sell the bike back to you. It is smarter for the company to do this as they can settle the claim for less out of pocket $$ but I've heard some companies don't let their adjusters do that. Remember the goal of the insurance adjuster is to settle the claim for the least amount of money.

BTW, most policies have some coverage for personal property damaged in the accident, otherwise your gear. Don't forget that claim.

Chinese plastics(race replica set maybe), Ebay tank, ebay fairing brace etc... I could have it looking great cheap.
Of course factory, not even close, but screw it, best of a bad situation.
You could always make it look great again, sell and get an all factory bike again.
There's always options.

I would do Auctmart fairing kit. And most everything eBay oem or aftermarket parts to fix. Just i did not know .. how others felt riding a wrecked bike. ? Still depends on what I get from insurance

Ask just about everyone who's ridden track days or races, most all of their bikes have crashed and correctly put back together, no problem.

The way you describe the events leading to the crash, something seems weird to me.
I"m definitely not calling you out, or saying in any way that you didn't describe exactly what you had thought occurred.

Was at least one of your riding partners passing with you? It almost seems to me that someone clipped your rear wheel, causing you to go down, etc. Again, I have no idea- I wasn't there, etc.

Again, I'm not in any way trying to degrade your riding skills, etc. Or your riding buddies, I'm sure they're good to.

But thinking about the physics involved, momentum, the way you described it, it would be really hard for your rear wheel to go out like that- even if you were cutting the curve out, curve in really hot and hard.

I could be way off, and I don't mind if I am.
Again, I'm not trying to prove anything, nor say anything negative about your skills or story.
And, I'm really glad you were fully geared up- are are OK!

** Edit- It's amazing to me, just how many K5/6 LiterBikes with less than 20K miles on them, in nearly perfect shape there still are around for sale!!! Blows me away- but that's not going to happen forever

Cool day, maybe a little moisture on the painted line? I can see the rear spinning up on that.

If you look at some track vids you can see that the guy in back is 99% the guy to crash in that scenerio unless he really clobbers the guy in front.

Yes all 3 guys passed with me cause they were dead on my 6 I looked back. Gave the hand wave to follow ...and went to overtake the truck. Next thing I know as I am crossing back in front of truck I feel my back end slide over and after that all I feel is pavement .. wish I had more info to give. Wish one of guys had a go pro.

The price of a nice streetfighter is, at the very minimum, the same cost as rebuilding it with OEM parts. And that doesn't include the hours of custom work. Probably smarter, and easier, just to fix it if he wants to keep it.

GSXR 1000: Always purchase a liter bike, because it is the most economic choice.

If Frame is straight and good, forks are good, and all the running gear is good, nothing to worry about. Hard to find a 10 year old sportbike that hasn't been down to some degree.

Front end looks good. Wheel spins smooth .I see no frame damage anywhere inside and out. Swingarm no damage. How do I make sure my forks are not bent any?

Did the bike hit anything? (besides the road ) If not, bent forks are unlikely.

The quick and easy way is to support the front of the bike, remove the front wheel, fender and brakes. Then just turn each of the lower tubes and check for wobble.

"airborne before hitting a ditch".... that troubles me. Could be fine, could have caused major damage depending on angle of impact. Is there a shop nearby with a computrac or some other measuring device that can prove it's all true?

Firstly glad you're okay and your gear did it's job.

Sounds like you hit a bit of moisture or oil as you crossed the painted line and wheel spun up. More than likely you snapped throttle closed as a survival reaction which as soon as grip returned to rear chucked you off. Just my guess not that it matters how you went down now because it's over and done with.

My choice would be to slap some track fairings on it and make it a track bike. Your bike doesn't appear to be badly damaged and like has already been said, a bike of this age has more than likely been dropped at some point.

Damn, scary man but glad you're ok.

Thankfully I haven't been through this (yet..). But I'd probably do some research on cost of replacement, gear cost, review the policy, and see what insurance/buy back costs are, then make a decision.

Track bike or eBay resto. Maybe check prices on getting the frame checked for straightness/integrity, if it's cheap it'd be worth the peace of mind since it might have flipped.

My GSXR has a rebuilt title from a crash two owners ago. Hurts the resale value a bit but 15k miles later no problems.

Very nice.... I am not sure what I like better, the color scheme of your bike, or all that dang storage space you have to work in.... I have to tuck my elbows to my side to work in my garage..... Great job.......
