Hey I have a 2005 gsxr 600 my FI light is coming on randomly I can get it to go off by messing with my kickstand sensor but I wasnt aware my sensor could make it come on the bike does not shut off and will run fine until about 6k rpms then it wants to run really rough as if it ain't getting enough fuel the oil level is good and I've put the bike in dealer mode and it dosen't throw any codes I'm guessing that maybe my spring is weak because it usually comes on after hitting bumps or wheelies I have read a little about people disabling it but not really sure the best way to any advice would be appreciated thanks
no I have no other lights come on just the f i light and the bike does not die the bike runs fine up to 6000 RPMs then acts like it's not getting fuel I can mess with my kickstand and sensor for the kickstand wiggle the wires around a little bit + reset the kill switch turn key back on and it usually goes off sometimes it takes me two or three times so far I have always been able to get it to go off but when the FI light was on and I put it in dealer mode it was not throwing any codes as soon as I get it to go off the loss of power after 6000 RPMs goes away and it runs like it should I'm thinking it has something to do with the kickstand or the sensor but I was not aware of that it would make it run like that I thought if the sensor wasn't engaged it would automatically shut the bike off if it was in gear but everytime it has come on I can mess with the kickstand sensor and it has always went off like I said it takes a couple times sometimes to get it to go off
As Chuckster asked earlier, what other indications are you getting when the red FI light comes on?
The red light only comes on for 3 reasons.
1. FI fault with a blinking FI in the temp window
2. Low oil pressure and shows the oil can icon on the display.
3. High temperature and shows the thermometer icon in the display.
The side stand switch is likely not your problem. It does not cause an FI fault if it has a problem. The light is going off because when you cycle the side stand switch, you are rebooting the ECM and the cluster looses fault.
It just blinks back and forth between the FI light and the temp the bike is running but has never ran hot and has never showed me a oil light I went on a 6 hour ride 2 weeks ago to the back of the dragon in Virginia and it come on about 45minutes into the ride as always traveling down the highway I pulled clutch in and hit the kill switch restarted it nothing happened the second time I done it I took my foot while still traveling down the road and held up on the kickstand nice and snug and it went off did not come back on for the rest of the ride few days later went on a short ride in it come back on I messed with the kickstand sensor and it went back off but I have never seen a oil light or has it ever run hot
Follow Chuck's advice, put it in dealer mode and ride the bike till the fault code pops up. It will not hurt the bike to have it in dealer mode.
You do have a FI fault but I'm guessing you are shutting down the bike before you put it in dealer mode to read the code. Shutting the bike off deletes the code from the cluster.
okay I will give it a try while riding it the last time I put it in dealer mode the FI light was already on and flashing and all it showed me was the coo with TPS in Center but thanks for the advice I will give it a try and let you know the outcome
I have rode the bike In dealer mode for about an hour now the only thing I have seen wrong so far is the TPS sensor will jump between the center and the top but I've not noticed the loss of power yet can the throttle position sensor cause the FI light?
The TPS bar moves with the the throttle. This is normal and you can watch it function by turning on the ignition without starting the bike and opening the throttle.
This is why it is important to have the idle rpm set to the proper value before adjusting the TPS.
If the tps is bad it can throw a code. You can easily test a tps for dead spots with a ohms meter . Considering your having issues in certain rpms it seems probable it could be it. As far as the line jumping there is a procedure to set a tps sensor. I beleive a manual will tell u it need to stay in the middle all the time but it’s not unusual on a gsxr to jump a little.
Thank all you guys for the input and information I just got back from riding a little more about another hour the TPS sensor is still jumping around from Center to Middle saying coo the whole time but I have not experienced no loss of power yet another question it might seem dumb but with it in dealer mode will the FI light still show or blink in and out like it was before it was in dealer mode or will it just show me the code constantly and what would be your next suggestion get an owner's manual and try adjusting the TPS or keep riding it in dealers mode to see if I experience the loss of power again because since I've rode it in dealer mode I have not seen no FI light just the constant coo with the TPS jumping around
Does the bike still have the EXCA (exhaust flapper valve actuator) installed, attached and working?
This is a frequent source of sporadic FI codes (C46)
I would suggest that you put it back to normal mode and ride. Keep the paperclip handy and if the FI light comes on again DO NOT TURN OFF THE BIKE. Put it in dealer mode and the code will pop up.
As mentioned a couple of times already, the TPS set line will jump and move with the throttle. It sounds like it is set really close to center so it is not your issue.
Okay thank you when I get time I will try that I will take it out of dealer mode ride it till my light comes on and not switch it off put the paper clip back in and see what code it throws I will let you know what the outcome is when I get a chance thanks to everyone that has helped out
Because yes the bike does have an aftermarket Yoshimura pipe and a K&N air filter but I am not the one who installed the pipe it was on there when I bought it so that could be the issue
I forgot to mention it does not have a power commander just the aftermarket exhaust and the air filter not sure if anything was done to the exhaust before installing
, my bike is doing the same thing. After too frustrating weeks of going through the entire wire harness and all this b******* watching every video on YouTube I finally decided it had to be the kickstand sensor when I was trying to diss connect it. It's the green connector under the seat. I got pissed off because I couldn't get it apart I ripped the f****** sensor right off. when I did the wires touched together and the Dash came on however it still won't start but my clusters on and I found out that the relay there by the fuses in the front on the air duct it's the green connector under the seat I got pissed off because I can't get it apart I ripped the f****** sensor right off when I did the wires text together and the dash came on however it still won't start but my clusters on I found out that the relay there by the fuses in the front on the air duct well I was told that it runs the fuel pump the turn signals and the sensors
My bike is throwing a c28 code until I get time to get stva fixed would it hurt to take out my secondary butterfly valves could it cause my bike to have to be retuned or anyting or can I just put them back in after I get my stva fixed
