03 gsxr 600 Stator replacement help

Aloha guys, i just recently traded my cr450r Race spec dirtbike for a beautiful 2003 gsxr 600 stretched wit ha few mods. one main thing that was wrong is the stator needed to be replaced as the bike wasnt holding a charge and wouldnt run for long. I cant seem to find any videos or writeups specifically toward this year does anyone have any info they can chime in? the guy told me its an easy job and it looks faily easy on the newer bikes im just worried it wont be as easy on an older bike like this. Ive tried looking everywhere but i dont want to dive into the bike without a little knowledge or background on what im about to do. Please any help and tips would be much appreciated. Aloha Kea.

Welcome.

I would suggest that you actually diagnose the problem first.

Failure to charge is more frequently caused by a failed Regulator/Rectifier.

This will show you how to check the system.

If you actually need to change the stator, about any of videos will do. It is pretty basic.

Don't buy Chinese crap from Ebay. OEM or Ricks are recommended.

Do torque the stator bolts and use blue loctite.

Use a new gasket and just a bit of RTV sealant where the rubber wire plug is installed.

You need a service manual for stator & R/R checking procedures. Look in the Engine section for removal/installation procedures and the Electrical section for checking procedures. Pay attention to the condition of the connector between the stator and the R/R. Replace it if there's any hint of it overheating. Not sure about yours but some of the stator cover attaching bolts may use sealing washers. You need to reinstall them on the correct bolts or, better yet, replace them with new. The magnetic force between the stator and rotor can lead to pinched fingers during reinstallation, so be careful. My information may be out of date but both Electrosport and RaceTech Electric had downloadable charging system fault finding diagrams. They're similar but I preferred the latter.

Stretched, you say?

P.S. John, that's some good information in your link.
