2017-2020 GSXR1000 Issues

Just bought a new (old stock, 0 miles) 2017 GSXR 1000 from a dealer. The bike currently has 450 miles on it but has had some strange issues since I left the dealer. Has anyone experienced these with theirs?

First problem: 4th to 5th gear then 5th to 6th gear double click. When normally shifting you feel the shift for move into position solidly/confidently. Mine feels almost as if its half shifting so I either have to continue to press it down or take my foot off and assume its in gear then shift to another gear. There is a definite click halfway through the shift also.

---Adjusted the shift linkage to multiple positions in both standard and GP shift but no fix.

Second problem: This thing seems to have a very nasty fuel problem when on decel. It basically falls on its face instantly to the point of being violent. I can cruise along in 6th gear at 70mph, hit a bump or accidently blip the throttle and it will jerk hard. Same for all gears and the problem seems to be exacerbated at lower rpms.

---Bought a full system and servo buddy hoping the exhaust or exup was the issue but so far no change.

Third problem: The clutch tensioner is annoying. Its a solid clunk and continues to do it even when riding around if I pull the clutch in. Some times the clutch is kind of rough on down shifts.

---I have adjusted the clutch lever play and tightened the chain, but so far no change.

I've only demoed one of those twice but did not feel the issues you mention from that limited experience.

I'm not sure what you are feeling with the shifts. Are you feeling the quick shifter actuating between the shifts? Are you making a firm and full travel movement of the shifter?

A lot of the bikes have a harsh decel cut off, but have you tried a different mode? An ECM flash should be able to eliminate this issue.

I don't know what a "clutch tensioner" is.

This is the "non R" model so no QS.

I have tried hard and soft shifts, and different rpms. It seems to do better at higher rpms. Ex: (GP shift) I will be pushing down and feel a light click but not a solid gear clunk. If I keep pushing down after the click it may go more or not at all. So I will either re shift or shift to the next gear to make sure im fully in a gear.

If I keep this bike through the year then I will flash it once the warranty is up.

Sorry, not clutch tensioner. The drive chain engagement when slowly releasing the clutch.

Congrats on the new bike!

Pics, or it didn't happen :devil

Bought new with 0 miles...I'd be clunking my way back to the dealer pretty quick. They can fix it or they can give you a different bike.

I'm at 550 miles now and will change the oil this week to see if it helps. I did some testing to see when it happens yesterday so when I take it back to the dealer (unfortunately 2 hours away) they will know where to look.

5000 and above in 4th-6th it seems to either be less or not do it but runs more chance in 5th and 6th. At 7k is seems to only be somewhat noticeable from 5th to 6th, but not always. I will try higher revs today. Maybe it just needs more rpms for a smooth transition!?!? I have never had this issue on any other bike I have owned and I would think going from 5th to 6th when already at 65+ it should shift smooth.

Update:

I'm now at 800 miles on this turd and here is what I have figured out.

-The clunky clutch is the Suzuki Clutch Assist System and is attempting to help me with smooth transitions, but so far is absolutely horrid and if I could remove this concept I would.

-The engine has a annoying vibration as the rpms are increased which is apparently due to not having a balancer on the crank? Weight savings sure, but the handlebar vibration is terrible.

-The double clicking when shifting is still TBD.

-The bike falling on its face with a decal has not been resolved with a full exhaust, pcV, and Brocks street map or any other map. Seems the ECM is just very restrictive stock

-My brake rotors are now showing grab marks around every half inch increments even though the braking is smooth. Not sure what is causing it but I suspect the traction control.

So far I have to say this is the worst GSXR I have ever owned.

I don’t know what the clutch assist is. And I changed the shift star (Factory Pro)in my 2017 because of shitty shifting. As for the jerky throttle that is caused from the ECU cutting the fuel on decel the fix is ECU flash and tell who ever does it to flash it so the ECU does not turn all the fuel off on decel. Now I have a 17 that is as smooth as my K7 was, but like you when I first got it I was not happy with it at all.

Sorry to hear.

I know no QS.

Are you using the clutch to upshift? Is it better without the clutch? Not needed anyway to upshift for sure.

I typically only clutch 1-2 and sometimes 2-3. I have tried both through every gear and it doesn't seem to matter. The only thing that makes the clutch/shifting somewhat smoother is increasing the speed.
