Yes it can be removed, you drill out the rivets. If you're getting it coated black then you're going to have silver rivets when you put it back together. Just FYI

seems like quite a task. i wouldn't want to destroy my brand new exhaust. tls, do you think the carbon fiber will melt or get damaged from high oven temps?

To drill it out you simply use a small drill bit, slightly larger than the diameter of the hole in the rivet and gradually go larger until the rivet is drilled out. Then it's just a matter of using a pop-rivet gun to put the new ones on when you get the pipe back from your coater. Are you looking at getting it powder coated or ceramic?
I wouldn't risk it personally. You'll have to order new rivets and PROBABLY a new badge (mine got damaged during the coating process, just too lazy to drill it out and re-rivet a new one on). The rivets cost like $0.12 each and the badge plate will cost you $12.00. Honestly the C/F *COULD* survive the baking because it's on an exhaust pipe, but.... I dunno, I'd hate to be the one who tries and then it gets ruined and you wind up having to order a whole new cone piece and who knows what that will run you

powdercoat baking temp runs from 160-210 the CF will survive....just remember to remove all masking before baking dont that before.....not fun to clean up

you can get a powdercoater for about 60 bucks at harbor freight.... http://www.harborfreight.com/10-30-p...tem-94244.html my neighbor (does power coat and sand blasting for a living) has one of the HF ones he uses for small things and he swears by it......you can bake in your home oven just remember like all "painting" its all in the prep. Id just leave the rivits in it

That low of a temperature would worry me about the longevity of the powder coating on an exhaust.

^ thats fucking sick man! i'd hate to ruin the cf end cap. and i dont feel like doing any drilling and risk putting a whole in this can. this exhaust is gonna be the only silver on my bike. besides the rotors. i might just spray it myself with high heat paint. and yea i was going to powder coat it. the guy said he's done it before, at high temperatures and its just as durable as coating anything else. but i was only coating the sleeve, not the mid-pipe and muffler like you did. Those are the parts that actually get really hot. i believe. but yea thanks for the pic and video.

thx for the link. maybe in the future i'll look into it. all my parts are already in the mail heading to a guy on this forum. he's giving me a good price. sometimes i'd rather pay than do the labor.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess the CF R-55's come with the logo engraved. I've seen a couple different ones actually. Mine, one that said R-55 but wasn't as big as mine and now yours with the engraving. That makes life a lot easier for coating. I really need to get my ass up and order a new badge and redo it. It's probably the only thing that bothers me about it.

Cool. If you decide to get it coated, make sure the coater doesn't coat the male fittings (like my jackass did). Otherwise you're gonna have a hell of a time putting it back together, I had to seriously muscle it (had a friend help me) and then pound on it with a mallet. Eventually I sanded the fitting down and it went together fine. I thought my coater would have more sense, but I was wrong. This is my pipe pre-coating:

I kinda liked it.. but I had the bigger scheme in mind

lol ok i got you. thanks for the heads up. i wish they would've made this exhaust in black from factory. black flows a lot better with our red and white color scheme. but this a such a good looking (and sounding) pipe regardless. shit i might just keep it silver.

No question.. I went crazy trying to find a black version, I think they made them for the Busa or something (I can't remember anymore) but wound up finding a ceramic coated pipe similar to the R-55 which did it for me. Had to do it.
