Motion Pro R1 throttle tube installed. pretty simple install. No need to lift the tank or anything else. Just loosen the throttle adjuster sleeve and carefully remove and install both cables and re-adjust. I re-used my stock grip. That was the hardest part, getting the grip off of the stock tube. Basically turned it inside out to get off of the tube, then flipped it again so it was right side out. It will be slightly loose fitting on the new tube, so I used some boat bellows adhesive to glue the grip to the tube. Bellows adhesive is similar to weatherstrip adhesive. same same. I haven't riden yet since install but I'm excited to. For $9 how can you go wrong?

Any particular reason you went for the R1 tube instead of the R6? I'm toying with the idea of changing my stock tube on the k7 600 but haven't decided what to go for yet.

At the time I got my flash done, I still had the OEM damper so chose to not defeat that. After getting to the track though decided I did want an aftermarket damper but the Ohlins comes with a resistor so it tricks the system into thinking everything's okay.

I know most people do this mod because of the low cost but the motion pro kit is amazing. All my buddies have gotten one after riding my bike.

Maybe that's the solution I should go for. I've read that the R1 tube isn't much of a difference in turn to stock, and the thought of having to buy a dremel to do the R6 mod makes it more expensive and I'm concerned about stuffing it up.

So the Motion pro kit just replaces the entire stock housing and tube, does it?

Yes and the cables. It gives you different reels so you can make the throttle more or less aggressive

May have to cut the switch housing though to get everything to fit on the bar. Some replace it with the Motion Pro kill switch but then you lose the other buttons too. I modified mine.

Oh good point, I replaced mine with a motion pro kill switch. I didn't have any other buttons on there. My buddy cut his similar to yours. I still like it, would never go back to stock lol

So, the initial reason I chose the R1 tube over the R6 tube is because I didn't want to have to modify the housing. I have since ride the bike 4 times and I think the difference is quite noticeable even with just the R1 tube. I was just getting comfortable regulating my throttle to hold my wheelies up before I changed it. Now I look like a total jackass popping up and dropping it hard because the throttle is so sensitive that when I back off just a little it's more than a little and it kills the wheelie. I am having trouble adjusting to the new tube, but I'm going to give it more time. I could see how on a track bike you may want the throttle to be more aggressive, but on the street the R1 tube is more than enough. It's touchy.

@Ozsyd600 The sleeve I bought is the Motion Pro 01-0094 Throttle Sleeve. According to Motion Pro this sleeve fits many different bikes including 1998-2014 Yamaha R1. Now you should now, the stock grip does not fit as tight on the motion pro sleeve as it did on your stock sleeve, so you have to use some adhesive. They sell special adhesive for it and I would probably just go ahead and order the correct adhesive. I used some boat bellows adhesive, and although its kind of working, it didn't harden as much as it should and in direct hot sun it seems to get soft and the grip can move a little. So just use the right stuff. The grip is only $9.71 and free prime shipping on amazon. I think next time I would just buy the tube with factory grip installed from the dealer for a better fit / no adhesive.

@J.GILKY Instead of buying the adhesive, you can always just safety wire it. Its a little more expensive, obviously, but at least with the safety wire its more versatile and you can use it for other things.

update on the new throttle tube and grip install. I have since gotten used to the new throttle and it feels good. Its just a learning curve getting used to the more sensitive throttle, but I like it now. I ordered another factory tube with grip anyways just so I have it. The grip is staying on the motion pro tube ok with the adhesive I used. I have since installed some new Rizoma bar ends and a Zero Gravity double bubble windscreen. I like the windscreen a lot, helps to cut the wind.

So, I liked the wing decal I had on the side of the bike, but I wanted something more, and something a little less generic looking. So I found a decal of egyptian god Anubis. I think it turned out perfect. Subtle, but loud at the same time. I love it.

Heres a pic of the new levers and bar ends. I bought the cheap CNC levers on ebay to see how I like the shorty design. Surprisingly the fitment quality is very good. I have felt other aftermarket levers that flopped around and felt very loose, but these fit and look great.

So after going for a ride with the new levers, I have to say that I kinda like the short clutch, but something didn't feel right with the brake. It's was too soft/had to pull it to far to get stopping power even on the full tight adjustment. So I modified the little pocket that the master cylinder plunger sits into and it feels better now. I stumbled on a really cheap genuine set of pazzo levers last night so I bought those too. We'll see if the is any difference in fitment.

So I recieved the pazzo levers and I have to say, they are pretty much identical to the cnc ebay levers. I haven't even bothered to try them on, mainly because my little modification to the brake lever completely fixed the slack problem. After riding with the shorty levers a little longer I can say that I like them a little better. I feel like I have better control of the handle bars because more of my hand is gripping them at all times. I also think my wheelies are getting a little better since doing the levers, but I guess it could be coincidence.

I think the shorty levers give a more full feedback when pulling them in. This is feeling or sensation is definitely missing from the stock stuff. Also, you can always flip those levers. Bike is coming along nicely.

its garaged at my house. I'm just hoping there is not too much flooding. I'm not that far from the coastline. there are 2 rivers close by as well. I'm packing up and leaving town to keep my kiddos safe. Just hoping I can come back to a fairly normal home in a few days.

Yea man, We're all good. Thanks for asking. We seem to be spared every time a big storm rolls through. I like to think its because we live right by Karma. We actually had zero damage at all. I packed up and left town anyway. Some other people did not do so well.

So I picked up a used track suit over the weekend. I'm not sure the exact model of the suit, but its in great shape, honestly don't think its ever seen a race. I couldn't pass it up for the price. So I guess I will be planning to do a track day soon with a buddy of mine. I also went and bought some new SMX-3 boots for riding the streets, i'm not sure if they would pass for legal on the track, but I'm scoping out some SMX-6 boots as well. Picked up another helmet today that should be track legal, its a late model Suomy. Came with a Sena bluetooth with camera, used but also in great shape. Actually fits better than my HJC. I do need a pair of track gloves if anyone has anything for sale, or has a recommendation.

They are my first pair of boots. I'm riding in my leathers and boots tonight for the first time to see how it feels. Do you know if they will allow these boots on the track? I have never been. And I know these are lacking some of the armor that the SMX-6 have. I bought the 3's because I will be wearing them 99% on the street, so I went for the more practical and comfortable choice.

@J.GILKY To be honest, I think all of those rules depend on the track. I personally wouldn't use them for racing. While I'm sure they're fine for going down at 80, I don't know they'd do in a high speed crash. After all, we don't wear them for the ride, we wear them for the crash.

Many track organizations just specific "riding boots that fully cover the ankle." Depends on the organization and might depend on the group you're in. I haven't personally seen anyone with boots that short and they for sure wouldn't be ideal track boots.

So, of course my buddies gave me shit for riding full gear the other night, but hey I don't care. I have to say that I was definitely more courageous with leathers on. After just one ride my chicken strips are virtually gone. We were all chatting on the Sena's and they kept saying put your knee down, put it down!... lol. So every corner I was trying so hard. But still not there yet.
As far as how the suit fit, I feel like its slightly short for me. If you look at alpinestars fitment chart it says this suit should fit up to a 6'2" rider. Well im 6'4". While I was riding I noticed it felt like the knee pads were really tight against my knees, a little uncomfortable in that sense. But otherwise it was good. Now this was my first time wearing boots, so yes I missed gears, quite a few times. But worse was that every time I came down from a 1st gear wheelie my boot would bump the shift lever and pop me into neutral and it would super squid rev. ugh. But by the end of the night I was feeling more comfortable in them. practice practice i guess.

I used to think guys riding in full leathers looked silly too. You get over that. Now if I try to ride in just jacket and jeans it doesn't feel right.

Don't fall victim to the "chicken strips" trap. If you're out on the streets trying to drag knee, sooner or later something unfortunate is going to happen. Get thyself to the track!

As I haven't hit the track yet (6 weeks to go!), I prefer to refer to the unused portion of my tires as my margin of safety rather than chicken strips
