Fallen Rider in Fort Wayne, IN

I didn't know him, but apparently just about everyone else in town did. Everyone, ride safe...

Apparently the woman that started sobbing was him mom; one of my riding friends said that his mom was right behind him when this happened.

Sorry to hear about the horrible accident.

I read the article and here is what I took away from it:
Rider was traveling at a high rate of speed WHILE popping a wheelie.
Rider was not wearing a helmet.

A good reminder for us all to:
A. Ride responsibly
B. AGATT

In Indiana you only are required to wear a helmet if you are riding with your permit. Once you get your endorsement, it's not required anymore.

So much more comfortable with it on, IMO.

I rode with no gear on, many times when I first started. Well I would always wear a helmet if I went out of town and speeds were higher than 35 (freeways). Shorts, sneakers, t-shirts, etc.

Started riding with gear and it was HOT. After about a month or two you don't even notice anymore.

Used to always at least ride with jeans and boots. Helmet law here, but I'd ride with one regardless. I will now *maybe* go with jeans, boots, jacket, gloves but even just jeans feels a little wrong. Most of the time it's the full 2-piece.

Such a shame, as much as you wish you could take it back... you can't. Never forget the consequences when you decide whether or not to put on gear (shouldn't be a choice involved honestly). Stay safe.

I'm not sure if I could find pants in my size anywhere. I would like to have something I could wear shorts under and take off at stops. Right now I ride in jeans or my work pants (not great), and my Icon Contra jacket, helmet, gloves. I ride in regular shoes or my work boots, neither are great. I'm just so big, it's hard to find properly fitting stuff.

It has been many decades since I worked behind the parts counter but I think I remember Bates would make size to order. Just asking.
