Let it begin.

The straight line guys have one, now so do "we". Anything goes in here despite us having a thread for pics and vids this is so we dont need to create threads for EVERYTHING. Maybe you just have something quick you wanna say. Maybe you wanna just give a heads up when a new track junkie joins the forum etc...

Stickied at the top. Enjoy fools. :0001136745-wait:

What is the rule for bringing guests to trackdays? My first time will be the RideSmart Level 1 First Timer event at MSR Cresson on June 8th. I've been scouring the RideSmart site for info/policies but have not found any info on guests. I am assuming it is not allowed but a friend wants to come along so thought I'd see if I could find out.

I’d phone them. Can’t see why guest should not be allowed - they may not be allowed in pit lane/pit garages, but should be place for them to watch and video you!

At the track I go to, there is a modest gate fee per person, but you can bring your whole pit crew and groupies if you want.
Watching is kinda limited depending on the venue. It's not like on TV where you see the entire track and get commentary.
Whoever goes better like hanging out doing little for the day. I always feel bad for my kids when my wife shows up with them...

They'll be sign in, typically a waiver. Children will also need to be signed in by a legal guardian. Small fee most places. As mentioned really boring for anyone who isn't really into motorcycles. Not much to do at all especially for kids. Most tracks don't allow kids to to ride bicycles during hot track. RC cars entertain pretty good off in an obscure area of the paddock. If you have a wife or significant other have her bring a friend so they can chat about their typical bullshit.

Thanks! I'm going to call first to make sure it's ok, instead of just showing up & them saying no dice. A small fee is no problem. I'll take my DSLR & tripod and maybe he can catch some good pics/vids. He's into bikes as much as I am so getting bored won't be a factor lol

When my missus and little one came to watch me at the track, she didn’t have to pay to watch. There was also a BMW skid pan training in M3’s running which a number of visitors took part in to relieve their boredom.

I'm not sure of the official policy, but when I went to NCM the first time with Midwest Trackday, they asked for a show of hands in the Advanced group for first timers at the track. Over 50%, so the coach said "that's it, we're doing a supernovice". The first session was a full track standing yellow. All the control/coaches put on orange pennys and took a group with them. They ran the entire first session this way and stepped it up just a little every lap with no passing. A couple people were miffed because they'd been there before and wanted to go hard, but I think this concept was fantastic. It let me learn the track under the safety of everyone else. Frankly, I wish more organizations allowed A group riders to invade the first C group session behind an A group control rider. Pass as a group and not have to worry about a big speed difference with someone experienced.

The only time I've been nervous in A was when I was the new guy at the track and was "in the way". Granted, A group riders are good and know how to pass safely, but there's a risk there that doesn't need to be.

I've only ridden with MTD once at Heartland Park Topeka but it was well-run. When I did NCM it was with another group and there were some tricky parts for me to learn for sure (plus it was my first year back at the track after 11 years away). I'm not sure I ever did get "Deception" right.

Cool, never saw an official corner numbering of the track. T8 is where I highsided a year ago next week. An yeah, I've been across the outside curbing there.... good thing they've got a nice asphalt runoff out there. And while were't talking about it, why do people pull up through 14 and 15? I'm WFO from the exit of 12 all the way through.

Yeah you can really get a run up the hill into 16. 8 is the left carousel? That was my favorite part, probably because it's similar to one at RPM and I'm more comfortable in lefts. When I was there we didn't do 19-23. After 18 it went left back onto the straight.

After talking to some triumph guys I'm now thinking its sticking in the up position. I initially thought it was stuck center but after looking through the times it happened I'm pretty sure it stayed up. I pulled a shift mechanism out of my donor engine because they do have a tendency to twist and bend under heavy use because it sticks to far out of the case. I also ordered new return springs for the shift shaft and detent arm along with planning to swap the shift star. All parts arrived Monday so it will be a job for this weekend.
