Let it begin.

The straight line guys have one, now so do "we". Anything goes in here despite us having a thread for pics and vids this is so we dont need to create threads for EVERYTHING. Maybe you just have something quick you wanna say. Maybe you wanna just give a heads up when a new track junkie joins the forum etc...

Stickied at the top. Enjoy fools. :0001136745-wait:

I have a used set of Dunlop GPAs to run next weekend at NOLA. Haven't been to the track since the end of last month and I'm pretty much foaming at the mouth by this point.

Ive only ridden on this set of Michelins on the track. I started on Dunlops on the street. (SRAD Ran Qualifiers back in the day so i followed suit when i started to ride) But everything I Read about te Diablo Rosso Corsas is great.

:0001136745-huh: I can only suggest to get a tire suitable for your skill level, that you can afford and that you like and stick with it (pun intended).
Learn your tires and take that out of the equation. :hmmm:

I feel like I'm gonna outride Pilot Power 2CT's. I got a little squirrly at my last track day but I equated that to my rear tire being shot and me killing it coming out of the chicane and getting on the throttle a little harder than previous sessions.

I was gonna just run Pilot Powers as they are single compound...But figured the Pirelli's werent much more expensive...

If I dont like how they feel...I'll go back to Michelin i'm sure.

Yeah I generally stick with a tire until I have a reason not to. Like 2cts treat me well on the street. They got expensive and didnt really want/need the dual compound on the track so I switched to what he had there that day when I got a flat lol. Ill decide what I need next soon. I got like 2 more left on these I hope.

I've been running Q2s for almost a year now and have no complaints. I found a set of GPAs on the Trackday Junkie group for cheap so I decided to try them out.

I just ran the stock bt016 on my first intro trackday last weekend, as I was surprised how well they held up. No slipping at all, but I also hear that track is pretty sticky. Me and my buddy ran in the front of the beginner session. I obviously wouldn't recommend running stocks, but not as bad as I thought. I think I'm gonna go w either pp3 or q3 next time.

My first track day was on stock BT016s. They scared the crap out of me! However, I didn't realize they were like 5 years old. Lots of tread left (bike hadn't been ridden much by previous owner) but hard. I've gone through 2 or 3 sets of Q2s at the track and they have treated me well. Q3s are coming out in June... I kind of want to try try the GPAs or Pirellis, but the Q2s are at such a great price point.

Here in Utah we got to ride the Perimeter course at MMP last weekend. The weather was fantastic. Couldn't ask for a better second track day of the year.

Keigwins @ The Track is coming to MMP in June. They're doing an open track format day = no sessions. I don't think they've been to MMP before. Anybody have any experience or feedback regarding Keigwins? I'm thinking about going...

Apex has a first time riders special for $99. The also have rental leathers. I think the rental leathers might actually be free, subject to availability. They aren't pretty, but they'll get you on the track. You've just got to reserve them far enough in advance before they are gone.

I've done 8 track days at MMP. Just started last spring... I may never ride on the street again. It's only the most fun I've ever had in my whole entire life, by a long shot. You've got to get out there. Sell a kidney if you have to. It's worth it.

Lol. I don't hate on the store brand. My first suit was frank Thomas. :D. Luckily I never had to see how well it held up in an off. Gonna do some research on some gear....was gonna wait till next year, but don't know if I can. What's MMP's requirements for the bikes. I know water wetter and lights disabled/taped, mirrors removed. Do they need wheel weights taped as well? And what about the license plate? Removing mine will require taking off the entire undertail so would they be cool with it being taped too?

Apex is pretty laid back. I've seen them let some questionable looking bikes onto the track : ) Here are their official requirements: http://www.apextrackdays.com/faq/

The biggest issue is that there are no leaks. Yes, the wheel weights must be taped. They'll let you on with your license plate, but normally guys will use duct tape or something on the license plate hardware so that it doesn't vibrate off and leave hardware on the track. My first time out, they told me not to worry about water wetter. I used it anyways, because I didn't want to crash and be "that guy" who caused the black flag.

Cool. Yeah the coolant change isn't a problem. Just more worried about the plate. Looks good, but no way to get to the nut on the back without disassembling the entire ass end if the bike. Oh well.
I'm at work now so checking out Cyclegear and sportbiketrackgear and some other sites. Glad its a slow night. Lol

You are not helping 3N. And I was SOO nice the other day.....
My wife would have a shit fit. I'm probably gonna head to Cyclegear tomorrow and try some shit on then do internet shopping. Pretty much fell in love with the sidi ST Air boots. I'll buy them new, but if I can find a used suit I'm gonna jump all over it.

Yup thanks for that btw :smash:

I tried on the ST airs but couldn't stomach the extra $140 for them. So I got the cobra airs. Maybe one day when my wallet isn't bleeding I will pick up the good stuff.

So today the addiction took over

Track account>savings account :(

I'm a Pirelli fan. Used to use the Diablo Corsa IIIs, which have been replaced by the Diablo Rosso Corsas. Great track/street tire!

In the last year or so, I started running warmers and DOT race tires. First it was the Dragons, Pirelli's older spec race tire. Great price point. Then last year I tried their current race DOT.. the Diablo Supercorsa. OMG I love these tires.

Pirelli also makes a trackday slick that doesn't require warmers and wears like iron. Haven't given those a try yet.

Not sure when my next dates are...probably NJMP and BeaveRun in July.

"Pirelli also makes a trackday slick that doesn't require warmers and wears like iron. Haven't given those a try yet."

Which Pirelli model are you talking about? I would be interested in these.

As far as tires go, I've found out it is all relative to your skill level and track. Givin that your bike setup is right.

As far as my pace now ( upper intermediate ) this is what has worked for me*. ( might not for you :D)

VIR South/North/Patriot- Pirelli Diablo superbike slicks
NCBike-Conti Race attack endurance rear/medium slicks front
CMP- nothing, you'll trash whatever you bring
Road Atlanta- Dunlop GPA 211 :tits:

* I'm on a 2007 Gsxr 600 Dyno'd Bazzaz with Racetech GV up front/ Penske double for rear.

*All tires at recommended pressures using tire warmers at correct temp. these combos ran perfect for me with perfect wear.

*Do not use Dunlop Q2 at VIR and NCBike. VIR; they will suddenly give up. NCBike; They will wear correct, but wear completely out in one day.

Damn! Got a call from Revzilla this morning. Psych! We really don't have a Q3 in stock...

Oh well, nothing wrong with the Q2. I hit up Chaparral for a Q2 and K&N filter. $180 for both, free shipping to Utah by Friday : )

Still super bummed about not getting to try the Q3. STG had some on the way in my size, but priority shipping from MI to UT was $90 bucks or so. I love STG. Maybe I should quit waiting until the last minute to buy parts...

#42 · (Edited)
Lol I'm the same way. Last possible minute! What's the difference between a Q3 an the GPA? They're both Dunlop right? Im not familiar with the Q3 at all. Is it like a 2CT and a Power Pure? Then the GPA is like the Power One? Sorry I normally run Michilins, but when I bought my GSXR it had a set of Q2s on there, and I loved em. Great tires. I thought the next step was the GPA.

Got back into my workout routine. Down 5lbs last week trading fat for muscle. Now to shed a few more before this weekend @ VIR :D

Congrats T. I sadly am not starting my season this weekend like planned. Once again some terrible financial misfortunes have hit my wife and I. She got my TPM FT membership for my bday and its not looking good for using it this year.

I couldnt be more depressed about it.
