WAIT!! Just you wait before you go jumping my gun! =) I was not speeding!!!

So, yesterday, I was itching to ride my bike. I do not have the license plates on it just because I am waiting for the previous owner to pay off his loan and get me the final paper work to transfer everything over into my name. I just got the back tire replaced and wanted to give it a test ride, so I was taking the back roads for about an hour going 30-40Mph trying to break the tire in and get that wax coat off it. So at around 6:30, I figured it should be enough to jump on the highway. Well I live 2-3 miles away from work, but I have to get on the highway to do so. So I figured I would go ride from my house to work for a practice run.

Well, there is this hill and cops like to hide behind it. I passed by him and he didn't pull out, so I thought he didn't see my plate. I was releaved. So I pull into my work parking lot and turn around and I'm now at a stop light to cross the highway or get back on it. I can see the hill where I am at just fine and were that cop was at. He was no longer there, at the time I thought he just left and moved on. (not what I think anymore) So I was like, I'll just ride up the highway a few more times if he isn't there. So I ride up it, go to my home and turn back around to go to work one more time. This time I wasn't so lucky .... He was back in that spot. Maybe when I passed by the first time he tried to follow me but lost me when I turned into the parking lot (I don't see how he wouldn't be able to get me, I wasn't going fast at all). So when I passed him this time he pulled out, got behind me, and turned on his lights. I see this cop pull over countless number of guys so I know right where he wants me to pull over at. Between the lanes that go strait and the turning lane, there is a big open area that cars do not drive on that I pulled over in. I get off my bike after turning it all off, take my helmet, and look over at him. He didn't get out so I walked over and he rolled down his window asking for my license and registration. I told him I just bought the bike on Sunday and pulled out my bill of sale. I was saying I can't get the title changed into my name till the previous guy gives me the final paper work and how I was itching to ride it. He said Ok and told me to go back to my bike.

So shortly after, he comes out, and I walk towards him. He starts asking me why I do no have the motorcycle license yet, I said I have been really busy but I do have the MSF paper work that says I do not have to take the driving test at the DOT if that helps any. And that is when he said I'm going to right you up for a fine (He said the term but I can't remember it) for $160 dollars. Well, I got pulled over at the traffic light that is RIGHT INFRONT of my work, luckily enough, I was wearing my work jacket too. I was like, look, I was just practicing riding from home to work, I work right there *points* and then I point to my jacket, I live right up that street *points again* I wasn't trying to do anything bad sir, I just wanted to get a feel for my bike that I was itching to ride. I wasn't trying to do anything bad, I just wanted to see how it was to ride to work on it. He kind of looked at me for a few seconds and said I'm going to let you go but I want you to go strait home and park that thing until you get all your paper work and licenses in place. I said Thank you very much sir I will do that. Then he said I am saving you in about $400 dollars here. I said I understand, thank you sir. And I put on my helmet and drove home and parked it in my garage.

I thought for sure the guy was going to write me up, he really looked like he was having a bad day. I think what won it for me was that he pulled me over right infront of my work and I had my work jacket on.

I am done driving till I get my license =(

Also, I'd be surprised if anyone read anything this long, I don't even want to proof read it lol.

Yep

your lucky, 99% of riders dont get off so easy. i think him giving you a break was saving you a tad bit more then 400 buckaroos if he were to write up all the infractions, including inpounding your bike etc. cool cop right there....
Yeah I knew that when he said it as well but I didn't want to be a smartass.

First time I got pulled over was on a 79 Yamaha 650 special I got for free from my dad it was my first bike “the one you trash” anyway was going 45 in a 35 a motorcycle cop pulled me over and let me off with a warning and told me be carful but have fun riding. I was lucky if I was on my bike now a 08 750 I would have defiantly got a ticket! I also would have be going faster than 10 over lol

Lol yeah no kidding!

Man, you were definitely lucky. I'm glad you got off...cool cop! I have to be careful too because I'm riding around with a permit only. I don't get my license until the first wkend in Sept. Have fun though!
Yeah, he didn't seem cool at the time, I was thinking the whole time he was going to write me up for sure, got lucky. At least you have a permit, I don't even have that.

You are right i skimmed thru your story way too long. Cops never give me a break i mean never congrads keep it on ice for now us that 400 to buy something for your bike my good man.
Yeah it was long, didn't notice till I was done writing it, but I didn't want there to be someone jumping my ass for something else, so I try to make it clear. Instead of riding my bike this weekend I will install my flush mount blinkers, sliders, and wash it.

I think the main things that saved you was the fact that you weren't speeding or doing anything stupid as far as the way you wrere riding. Also helped you were respectful. If one or the other of those facts were different he would of hammered you. /// Anyway chalk one up for you and get that thing legal.

Cool cop, you are most definitely lucky. I remember about 15 years ago my dad bought one of those old used police kawasakis, that looked like the touring bikes. Anyway, he had just gotten it that day, no registration, no nothing yet. I say let me go for a ride. I knew how to ride, but had no motorcycle license. I get down the street about two blocks, and lo and behold a motorcycle cop on the same bike as me, glaring at me! I wasn't speeding, but I knew from the glare he was going to pull me over. He did, and here I am 22 years old with no motorcycle license on a police bike with no registration, no plates, no bill of sale, nothing! I acted very humble and said I lived a few blocks up the street, my dad just bought the bike, we were waiting for the plates, and I would go home immediately and never ride it again. He said yes, do that, before I change my mind and impound the bike right here and now. He even followed me the two blocks to make sure I went home. My dad freaked out when I pulled in the driveway with a cop following me, LOL. I guess he was pretty cool after all, he could have taken the bike had he wanted to.

Nah I've seen the cop before at my work and I think he knew who I was, I saw him at work two weeks ago pulling into the lot and I waved to him lol I live in a very small town outside Des Moines so I like to think our cops are nicer lol.

Oh my god! You rode your bike without all your paperwork? They should put your picture up in the Post Office! None of us would have done that! (yeah right!) :D Glad you skated out of it. Can't believe the cop sat in the car after a stop and let you walk up to him, good way to get killed.

Dude, I would never ever think of getting out of my car and approaching a police car. You have to remember how defensive they have to be, especially when making traffic stops. Of all the crazy things my dad has done as a cop in NYC he said that he thinks traffic stops were the most dangerous.

I'm surprised he didn't tell you to go back to the bike at least.

You're lucky, get that paperwork in order!
