Tailor a jacket????

So I am new to riding. Super new. Anywho, I bought anew Alpinestars the GP pro jacket. I am 6' and 180lbs. Lean fit. Broad shoulder and and a 31" waist. I tried on a large and it fit great although when I lean forward or reach the arm pits are way too small and the sleeves were too short. I bought an extra large... it socks because it fits my shoulders. And that's about it....

It's like made for a fat guy... the arms are baggy and the main cavity(especially with the liner taken out) is kind of puffy. I considered getting it tailored... taking the sides in and slimming out the sleeves... just had a hurricane so I can't get a quote until the week but has anyone done this?

I'll keep up info when I find out

You can get them custom done from the maker but I do not know about doing it after already having bought it.

Well I know I can get a shirt tailored for like 15$. But as for getting a jacket made? I bought the textile jacket for a reason, and it wasn't looks lol... its my first jacket and didn't have enough money after a bike and a helmet to buy a top end nicely fitting leather lol. But I will definitely look into getting one made next time, thanks... maybe a hyod.

Yes you can. If you can find a good leather guy/girl who works on race suits. I wouldn't just take it to any old dude who makes chaps in his barn. A crappy seam will end up breaking and make the entire jacket pointless. If you can find someone local who has done this kind of work I'd say go for it - you want a snug fitting jacket, otherwise it's gonna flop all over when you crash and not do its job. I'd suggest looking for the local racer forums/community and asking who they use.

Edit: oops, just noticed you mention it's a textile jacket. Hopefully my response still applies, but it might be a little trickier finding someone to work with textile who's familiar with bike gear.

Done.. I was able to get the body taken in along widest part from directly under the armpit, down to the end under the velcro adjustment . There was no cutting of any material or pulling any original seams so I'm not concerned with it failing. If the seam comes apart that the tailor made, it will just go back to original size. I paid 40$. A little over priced when it only took him about 20 minutes... either way, turned out great, although he wasn't able to do anything with the bagginess of the sleeves due to the odd shaped panels...

Thumbs up for this jacket mod
