A friend of mine bike keeps smoking , as he revs the bike a puff of white smoke comes out the pipe , it does not happen all the time but i dont think its normal , compression is good , he does have a p/c which was re map , gas is good , we are thinking head gasket but he is not loosing any oil yet at least , hum , what else could it be, when the bike is in nuetral and at normal idle there is no smoke , but when you rev it hard or when he takes off fast i see the puff of white smoke , does any one know what to check for . thnks,

so is it at high revs when this happens? what type of exhaust does it have? stock or aftermarket? i put an akra cf shortie on mine, and the yoshi r-55 map in my pc, and some blueish color smoke comes (only) out on high revs. its fine if thats what is happening. but if its happening all the time i would be worring about it then.

my buddies k4 1k was doing the same thing, valve guide clearence and valve seal problem was his problem, sounds like what he is experiencing. or an oil control ring below the compression rings, thats the ring that helps scrape oil off the cylinder wall on the down stroke of the piston.

Ummm White smoke people, not blue. Unless he is mistaking blue for white...

White - head gasket - COOLANT
Blue - rings, seals, guides, overfilled oil. - OIL
Black - running rich, weak ignition - TOO MUCH GAS

What I would do it smell the exhaust and see if it smells sweet like coolant, watch the coolant level and see if its dropping. Also do a leakdown test with the rad cap off and see if there is any air coming through, look for bubbles.

ding, ding we may have a winner. my 03 750 does it too. i think it is a gasket going out. small amount of coolant getting in with the oil

And thats not always 100% true either. it could also be nothing at all, if he took off the stock exhaust and put on an after market exhaust, where now he doesn't have a muffler anymore to restrict the exhaust flow some. cause there is nothing wrong with my bike at all. and when i had my stock exhaust on, no smoke at all at any rev. and now with my aftermarket exhaust on, once in awhile on high revs, alittle white or bluish color smoke comes out.

Or you could have a gasket going bad or something else since you put on ur aftermarket and not aware of it yet. I agree though it could go either way. but as far as smoke color goes the previouis statment is pretty much right on.

im pretty sure every bike out there, is going to smoke some when your not in gear and you rev it up. and the more i think about it, the stuff that comes out, of my pipe when i rev it up, it looks more like, you know when its cold outside and your exhaust kinda smokes/steams when its running thats what it does once in awhile, after a high rev.

Blow by, condensation , it could be a couple things. My bike is stored in a temperature controlled garage so I doubt its condensation but maybe. I don’t smell sweetness/cotton candy smell though. There has been times if I rev it good I can even see lil drops of moister coming out. My coolant level does not really drop either. If there were a leak wouldn’t oil be getting into the coolant over flow and vice versa? Oh well I’m not too worried till it smokes like a chimney.

yea if there was some type of leak, your coolant levels would drop. and if you were burning oil you would have to add some between changes. on mine my coolant levels are always the same, and i never have to add oil. so me too ill worrie if it smokes starts to smoke big time.

not saying your wrong, but I would get all the info first, hows the coolant? do a cyl leak down test and cooling system pressure test before ripping the engine down. look for milky residue in the oil as well. but if the head has to come off, might as well go hard, port it get valves checked and a thinner headgasket.. oohhhh yeahhhh!! or I am looking to far into it because I wanna do that to my bike even though it runs fine.
