Hello, do the air intakes on front have a drain inside before they get to airbox?

Did my first w of washes this weekend one before a big ride and day after was filthy, even being careful with hose pipe i get quite abit of water and snow foam in pipes i angled abit with hose to blast it out and it kind of worked.

I now know to cover them with rags but curious do they drain?

Worried about getting water in airbox and riding straight after like i did the other day.

Thanks

? noted.

I for one never spray wash/clean my bikes. Yes I ride them, and yeas they stay very clean.
I use minimal solvents like kerosene, and rags, and elbow grease!

I've read many a thread about how a bike won't run right after a 'spray' wash.

YMMV
Interesting that, ive always wondered what a dry wash would be like and how to do it without scratching paint etc

Noted sir. No, I'm certainly not using any abrasives that would scratch things/paint.

I also have never used a hose on my bikes. I use motul and microfiber, and most definitely have one of the cleanest bikes at the meet. I clean my bike after every single ride so that way it’s really never dirty.

Good product needs no water thats the kind of thing id like no need to worry about water ingress and no need to ride straight after.

Thanks for that.

still curious do the intake ducts have vents or does airbox have something to drain out

As far as I know, the only thing stopping water from getting into the air box is the air filter. The ducts on my 07 750 do not have vents nor does the airbox have a drain on it.

The Ram air goes to the air cleaner box, with the air cleaner facing down against incoming air.
  • If any water should go in, it stays at the bottom of the intake plenum before the filter element (dirty side).
  • If water gets to the air filter (oil-less or wax-less), it will wet/soak and restrict airflow, and then dries up and rendering the air filter restrictive. Oiled or waxed air filter element would prevent wetting and keeping the water out to a certain extend.

- If water passes the air filter, into the clean side of the plenum, it will have to climb over the intake funnel to reach the manifold and engine. (Spraying water mist on a hot metal surface is a decent method to decarbonize)

- Either that, or it stays on the bottom of the plenum, and flows and probably fills up the drain plug. (item #10)

- It looks like this.

Thanks you for your replies thats a relief i am overthinking it i know, in going start dry washing trying to find some products for my paint as its matte
Gravity wash is still the best way to water wash, try to avoid power washing or shooting water spout at unnatural angles (down up, sideways, and into nooks and crannies that are meant to be tucked away).

I think there are waterless wash products out there. They are good, just need a paradigm shift about washing anything without water.
