Which I think is proving that it's low centre of gravity that helps the bike stabilise, would you agree?
Not really. As in lowering the bike? I think that, and poor tire maintenance and poorly inflated has a LOT to do with it.

I don't want to jinx myself, but I really never have problems with speed wobbles on my bikes for many years.

My current 2 bikes: K5 Liter street- I refilled the OEM damper with 20W- it's actually too heavy at low speeds- but never a wobble.
K6 Liter Track- it has the OEM replaced with a Ohlins damper! I got it that way. This one HAS an adjustment knob.

I've never had a problem with speed wobbles on these bikes, even after setting the front wheel down from a wheelie, hitting bumps at speed, etc.

I've never used a 'ECU controlled' SD. From previous posts, sounds like a flash will fine tune it.
I've ridden for MANY years on MANYT different bikes the had NO f'n SD! I never had speed wobble problems.

I think the SD helps- however a strongly feel it's poorly worn, poorly inflated/ poor suspension plays a biggoe role.

OP- I didn't see what you speed wobbled and crashed on mentioned.
However, your newer Gix '18 750cc was it? I'd leave it be the way it came.
My 3 cents.

Oh, I think lowering the CoG does little for avoiding a tank slapper, but the likelihood of it staying upright once it starts is the important thing, I think is better with lower CoG. If it's high then the inertia pivoting about the contact patches goes up, so each time it swings over the top it is more likely to flail its way over further. That's my thinking.

Got to experience my severe wobble on a 1st generation 750 Interceptor, it had a 16" front wheel and no damper. Also didn't help that I didn't slow down enough for that elevated bridge deck. Interesting thing is I had noticed a few wobbles before that, and was starting to shop around for one (ohlins), but hadn't gotten it yet. I don't plan on riding my new bike the way I road the old one for at least a year or two, but you never know. I would rather be safe and spend money I don't need to spend that second guess myself from a hospital bed for not getting an upgraded one.

My 1994 'Blade has 16" front and no damper. Had one slap that dented the tank after clipping a small pothole whilst accelerating. Firm but relaxed grip on the bars, ease off the throttle and hunker down over the tank with knees in. Let it wobble using your arms to dampen it, it'll settle down.

The stock gsxr750 damper will work fine.

Those old interceptors were real bad for headshake...

I rode a friend's. Took my hands off the bars at any speed, and it would start oscillating badly.

OP, I still think you'd be fine with the stock system. I certainly don't want you to end up in a Hospital bed either though. Good luck and stay safe.

* You may do the same, but I check my tire pressures before any serious ride.
