i just want to change my rear sproket for some more low end everone talks about a 520 covertion , what is the chain stock ? 530? and could i gfo up six teeth in the rear and still have enouph chain agustment ?
520 chain is narrower than the 530 chain so therefor lighter in weight, if you go up 3 teeth on the rear, you are moving the rear wheel forward quit a lot, you could go 1 down on the front, which would give you the same gearing, and your rear wheel would go backwards very slightly, and transfer weight to the front, I would recommend you put a 2 tooth longer chain if you are going 2 or 3 teeth up on the rear.
1. 525 is stock for 600's and 750's. 530 is stock for 1000's. Yes a 520 will give you better acceleration due a reduction in rotating mass. This is a separate issue from gearing changes.
2. -1/+2 is a typical gearing change, particularly for 600's but a bit steep for a 1000. This allows you to keep the stock chain length. Which isn't necessarily a consideration since you should replace sprockets and chains as a set (and you have to, if you go to a 520 chain.)
3. Read the Tech FAQ section, there are whole threads on this.
