Another Chec thread

Hi. Yet another Chec code thread.
Situation is I swapped throttle cable and clutch cable and now won’t start. Track day season on hold until she starts.
Bike will crank but won’t start
Checked fuses
Eliminating clutch and switchgear issues as it cranks
When I turn on ignition on sounds like fuel pump primes, but don’t hear (or see as the airbox currently off) butterfly valves moving.
Starter cranks when clutch pulled in.
Have cleaned load of electrical sensors but still no joy.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Meant to add, tried another ecu and ignition and still no joy.
Is the tip over sensor able to trigger the Chec code?
Welcome to the forum.

I'm guessing from your title that "CHEC" is showing in the temperature window. That is not a code, that means that the ECM is not sending data to the cluster. The usual cause is the ECM is not powered up.

Since the starter will work, that means the ignition and kill switch are fine.

Check the fuses again (with a meter if needed) and also check the plugs on the ECM as you were working sorta near that area.

I'm assuming the bike ran fine before you worked on it.

Thanks for the reply. Appreciated.
Yes all fine before.
Could it be some of the wires on the block under the left cowling. Have replaced the block (a few years back and was previously ok) so potentially one of the wires not carrying signal.
To clarify then would need to trace all wires coming from back of dash display to ensure solid all the way to ECU (multimeter testing on each wire)

It could be the one data wire between the ECM but my guess is the ECM is not powered up based on the secondary throttles not cycling. You seem to waffle a bit on whether the fuel pump is working or not. It will not if the ECM is not powered up.

The cluster is not important, it just displays data and the bike will start and run without it.
Ok. Thanks again.
So need to id the power wire to the ECU and check that it has power.
Also check the data wire from ECU to dash but less likely.
Forgot to say a Suzuki dealer tried plugging into their diagnostics and got no response so power to the ECU looks favourite right now considering I’ve tried another ECU

Just a random thought, do you have the OEM ignition barrel fitted?

Yes and got another one with the other ECU for the pairing

Apologies for delay responding only just got round to looking at her again. Checked power to ECU and ok. Checked black green wire from ECU to Dash and nothing. Checked from left block to ECU and nothing. Checked left block to dash and ok.
Issue is somewhere between ECU and left block so made some progress. Hopefully replace wire from ECU to left block and see if Chec goes away.
Thanks again for the help

Last post wrong. Was checking black wire with green mark not the black with green trace. Now check black green and get continuity between ecu and dash. This is driving me nuts. Pics below of what I see / refer to.
Are there more wires to check from ecu to dash?

See less See more
Now checked all 5 wires that show link between dash and ecu and get signal through all of them.
Could the immobiliser show chec

Possibly. Check the orange/yellow wire from ignition to ECU for continuity.

There is no Orange yellow according to diagram.

Weird, what year is your bike? Those with immobiliser chip ignition key should have this wire.
Ok. Could now have identified it was me putting wrong connector to fuel pump. There are 2 identical connectors under the tank that will fit to the fuel tank.
Good news, Chec is gone. Now getting FI and Sd.
Battery on 12.4v due to all sitting and cranking so charging that first. Failing that need to look up bridging the dealer switch to get the C00 code.
Once again thanks for all the assistance.

You are not the first to do this, it is rare but does pop up at times. I think the other connector is for the secondaries?

The Sd error should go away once the battery is charged back up. The error is usually caused by low voltage. The damper does not react quick enough with the low voltage so the ECM thinks there is an issue.

Once again thanks for the assistance with this. Even though it turns out I was a do-nut hopefully will help someone else if they have done the same.
bike on charge now. Just ordered samco hoses to go with the new radiator. Once done will be back on track and get her over 100k 😁

Doesn’t help that the one you need is wired lower so can fall down but the other is linked to the secondary throttle and naturally sits near the plug on the tank
