I have a '98 GSXR600. This is my first bike. Today was a nice day so I went for a ride. Checked the oil before I left the house and it was good. 10-15minutes into the ride I just got done taking off from a redlight. Got up to 50-55mph cruising speed and then the bike shuts off and my oil/temp light starts blinking at me. I look at the temp at the time and it read 168. I coast into a parking lot and tried to restart it. Nothing. Wouldn't even turn over. Red light still blinking at me. I'm checking the kill switch and gauges. Everything looks ok. I check all the obvious. Fuel is good. I check the choke lever and noticed it wasn't shut completely. I shut it and try to start it. It starts. Could that be the reason it just shut off?

Looks like you solved your own problem.:D

Use the choke lever until the bike reaches at least 120f then, as long as it will stay idling turn the lever all the way off.

I'm kind of picky about my bikes warm up and usually will let it sit until it reaches 150f before I ride away, but as long as it'll idle nicely with the lever off it should be safe to ride.
