Ok, well my dad, being a 30 year harley vet, has decided to get a sport bike for fun...He wants an older one, mainly for cost reasons, and he " Likes them better". He's had his eye on this gsxr 1100 1993...good shape and all..and then there;s also a 87 750...my question is, seeing as how ive never delt with any of these older bikes before, what's the life on these things like..dependability..blah blah..basically as long as it runs good now, would it stay running good with proper care...i hear enough about how much better harleys are, the last thing i need is for him to buy a bike that quits on him a month later...h

As long as you find one that has been properly maintained and not completly thrashed on they will go as long or longer then his hd.

Also I would go for the 93 1100 they where/are sweet bikes and in there day the best you could get:thumbup:

make sure when you go to buy it to check for rust in the gas tank...also those bikes are carb'd so if it runs funky it shouldnt be too hard to fix..a good carb cleanin/synching and it should be good.. alot of problems will be from the carbs...vacuum leak..clogged/dirty carbs etc...but other then that..if they are properly maintained..you should be good.

Well I have an 86 GSXR 1100 and it is still going strong. Proper maintainance and it matters little how old it is. Gawd, I've seen almost new bikes that I would be afraid to ride.:twofinger

One problem however is that finding parts is sometimes a real pain.
