So Sunday I took my wallet out of my tail and put the seat back on then went into my house. I came back out later and tried to put my wallet and a hat in my tail and it won't open. The only thing in there right now is a Ziplock back to keep my wallet and things like that in. I don't know if something is caught in the lock part or what.
Is there any way to take the tail apart or get my seat off?

so they key wont turn or ?? get a flashlight and look to see if there is blockage from the left side where there is a gap for the helmet lock.
The key turns, I just can't tell if it's as much as it normally does if that makes sense at all. It's like maybe the ziplock got caught in the locking mechanism

what u may be able to do is take off your seat then u could try to look and see if any thing is blocking. you might even be able to get a long pair of needle nose pliers and try to pull the cable to unlock you seat. post a reply if it works

I mean I know how to take the seat off. But i doubt i can see if the baggie is in the lock. I'm leaving work in 12 minutes and I guess I'll find out if it works!

Hopefully I won't need it lol
Pop the front seat off, 2 bolts and see if you can see from there. If not, you can pull the brake lights off and see if from that. Atleats my K1 you can.

Try pushing down on the rear seat when you turn the key.
99% of the time!
Tried that + wiggling it while i was turning the key, got nothing!
I couldn't try the "remove front seat" idea last night, but I plan on riding today so once I get it outside I'll take a stab at it

My seat got locked on because my kid put it on before I connected the cable the last time I painted it.

I used a long flat head screwdriver, placed a shop towel under the slot for the helmet hook. Then pushed the mechanism over with the screwdriver to unlock it.

I'm going to try several methods today whenever I bring it out! If all else fails I'll just take it to the stealership and have them fix it.

So this is super odd. I went home yesterday, put the key in the tail and it opened up. I don't know what might have shifted or whatever but it came right open with no problem! Thanks for all the advice

Pull the seat or cowl off and turn the key several times so you can see the cable and lock to make sure it’s not binding somewhere. Prob just a onetime situation but id check to be on the safe side
