I installed some colored lights on my bike they look great come to find out after a week my battery was dead would it make a difference if I found a different place ground instead of negative on battery post

No it will not make a difference you need to check your wiring I am an electrician you must have some of the wiring where it is still pulling juice but that is not a grounding problem you should put a switch on the lights right after the wire leaves the battery. Hit me back if you don't understand.

You probably need to add an on/off switch to that remote. It might be draining power since that part would stay on listening for the call to power on the lights. Maybe you also have an alarm with remote that drains power at the same time listening so the two together over power the battery. Just an alarm after a month will drain a battery down. bike battery's aren't like car batterys with tons of power. Your battery might also be getting older.
