hey guys, when I bought my Jardine slip on the guy i bought it from said he had it "powdercoated" black but i think hes full of crap. Its peeling and falling off and its starting to look really bad.

so what I wanna do is take the can off, sand all the powder coating down to make it nice and smooth and paint it with a black, high temperature paint.

my question is do you guys know of any specific types or brands i should go for? preferably something i can get from lowes or home depot would be sweet.

thanks a bunch

I think autozone or advanced auto has a brand called DEI or something. They have the exhaust wraps along with the spray. I think its like $5 a can

yuppers dats the stuff. I used it with the wrap on the headers and mid-pipe but used the spray only in the piece going to the can. I am not a fan of cleaning shiney things.

sounds good rebel i may just use that stuff or similar depending on what i can find at lowes. I dont have a power sander or anything, will hand sanding it down as best as i can work fine? Or do i need to invest in a sander to do a good job?

Not sure about the sanding deal to be honest. I just wiped it down real good to remove oily residue and stuff then sprayed. Every 3-4 months I shoot a touch up on it.

okay because like i said mine has powder coating on it already that is falling off in chunks lol. I guess i'll try hand sanding it down and see how smooth i can get it first, if its really bad i suppose i can invest in a small power sander

Go with the black for sure, when I first got my pipe and the paint or "powder coating" (lol) was still new it looked SOOO much better than that ugly stainless color it originally came with.

Krylon or Dupont has a 1200F engine block paint that I've had on my '08 for 3k miles with no wear, fading or chipping. Light sanding and a 1200F primer coat (or 2) should do the trick. (Used it on a VFR exhaust for about 22k miles with minor touchups) I just painted mine sticking on a broomhandle, spacing out the light coats over a couple hours with no problems so far. Bang for the buck the best temporary fix for looks that you can do, I think.

okay it took me an hour to sand the pipe back down to the original metal, cleaned it up then I painted 3 light coats 10 minutes apart then one medium coat. Let it dry for 3 hours, put it on the bike and let it run for 10 mins, cool for 10, run for 10, and cool for 10. Looks pretty good so far, we'll see how it holds up under normal use. I will take some pictures once i get home from work later today.

ok heres the finished pics

Except for some of my greasy fingerprints on it what do you guys think?

btw i used the VHT header paint from autozone, there's one right by my house and that is what they recommended to use.

sounds incredible, not as loud as the two brothers (which sounds horrible imo) and it has a GREAT tone, sounds like a race bike.

heres a video of some twisties i did the day after i installed the jardine to kind of give you an idea. Im not goin real fast or anything, just cruisin.

thanks for the comments :bounce
