Hey guys im new to riding and i was just wondering, is it normal for you to be able to shift up without using the clutch? I heard that downshifting without the clutch is ok but what about shifting up? I accidently upshifted the other day without clutch and afterwards i was like wtf...i can shift without using the clutch???? or is there something wrong with my tranny?

This question comes up a lot, you might want to do a search.

But you have it backwards. Generally, clutchless upshifts (shifting from lower to higher gears) are fairly safe if you know what you are doing. Clutchless downshifts (from higher to lower gears) are difficult to do and you can mess up your transmission if you don't do them right.

Sportbike transmissions are specifically designed to allow the ability for clutchless shifting (these are race bikes, you know.) They have a constant mesh transmission, and close gear ratios.

I rarely use my clutch on upshifts except to start out. I don't use it on most downshifts either.
