I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas on what I need to look for. I usually always just wear my regular shoes and tuck the laces in so they don't snag.

Well, I want to upgrade to some proper protection! :D
I got my helmet, leather jacket, and some decent gloves already. I'm not looking for like full race boots or anything, just some comfortable riding shoes/boots that cover the ankles (like needed for the MSF course).

I plan on going to the local Cycle Gear store at I45 and West Rd (for those who see this and live in houston), so preferebly something they should have in stock.

Thanks for the upcoming input.

BTW, only really want to spend $100-$200 at most.

EDIT

Found these, look pretty nice.

I have the puma v1000s. I love them. They cost me $300 buck are worth every penny. They offer comfort and protection equal to if not greater than the Sidi lineup.

I ordered those boots and my Held Phantoms from Sportbiketrackgear.com. Great business transactions with those guys.

Spend the extra cash and get something that does the job right!

you want to be cool, or have real protection? that is up to you and how much your willing to spend for what you need, or will settle for.
I want protection... My goal isn't to look like some ass hat, but I want to like the way the gear looks at the same time. I mentioned how much I am willing to spend, more like able to afford to spend.

Never skimp when it comes to gear. Those "boots" you picked are just graduated sneakers and I wouldn't trust them to hold up any more than what you can buy at a foot locker.

Now, I've witnessed a lot of surgeries in my time...ankle surgery is a pain in the ass. Its cheaper to spend the money on gear that does the job right then halfass it only to find out that it doesn't cut the mustard when your ass hits the asphalt. Now, I'm not wishing this on you or anyone else. For the amount of money it costs to fix a busted leg or ankle you could probably buy a gixxer in every paint color. Compare that to spending an extra few bucks on a boot that are proven to get the job done.

Ultimately, its your body and your money. I'm just offering my experience and knowledge for what its worth.

Do you think the boots will be fine for the time being? Reason I say that, I am presently paying off the remainder of my wedding coming up next year, putting my fiance thru her last year and a half of school to finish her degree, paying off my debt by time the wedding hits so my debt/income ratio is awesome when we go house shopping, and probably a dozen other reasons why I can't really afford anything better atm.

I was able to get the matching helmet and leather jacket when I financed the bike, and the gloves I got (forget what brand) were about $35. I just am not sure if a full boot like the one you posted will work out for me. I don't want to spend $300-$400 on a pair, and a week into them, can't stand how they feel, are uncomfortable, stuff a long those lines.

I also need to buy a good, durable, matching textile jacket, as it gets unbearably(sp) hot in TX in the summer for riding. And I would prob be a little cooler w/o a helmet, but I refuse to even ride around the block not wearing my helmet. I need to buy some riding jeans (I've heard of ICON), and some better gloves. I really don't want to go the cheap route either, but would like atleast improved protection for now over my daily sneakers.

Don't bother with the textile jacket. Now I'm in Jersey...so my summers are without a doubt more mild than yours. I always held the belief thats its easier to replace water than skin. If i were you i would forego the textile jacket and spend the money on a good pair of boots. Then just bear with the leather jacket...if its a good brand it should have some venting and you can always carry a camel pack to stay hydrated.

My honest opinion is that those shoes will provide better protection than a nike...but your ankle and lower leg (which are fragile and what you should be focusing on protecting) are exposed.

If i were you...i would think about my priorities and for how much longer you can work with the gear you have. I value my hands and legs more than anything...which is why i got the puma v1000 and the Held phantoms...you cant buy better gear than that. If i go down once and i come out ok...the gear has done its job and id consider it money well spent. Now, imagine buying something that you know doesnt provide protection when you need it, then going down, and realizing you blew your money on something ineffective. its like adding insult to injury (quite literally).

I guess its what "you pay to play." Ah, seems ive rambled a bit.

To summarize, I would just save up a few bucks for another month or two...maybe take donations lol. btw, i have the pumas and while i wouldnt recommend a walking tour of NYC in them i would say they are very comfortable.

Congrats on your your engagement and your fiance getting her degree!

My brother in law ordered from extremesupply and got his stuff in one week and that was from the USA to Canada. I guess their shipping is free if its over 100 bucks. So far im impressed with a lot of their prices too

Those look pretty nice, and are within my current price range.

Heck you're in Texas, don't you have a good pair of Cowboy boots?

Not the same protection as the Sidi, but far better then Nike and you can wear them when not riding too.

On the other hand I've got pair of these...

But I have only worn them a few times so I am not sure if I recommend them yet.
I'm originally from MN so not into that stuff. ;) So nope, no cowboy boots for me. When I tried clicking your link, wanted me to register, and don't have time atm, unless you can post a different link so I can see and compare.

I'll kill Cycle Gears pricing, hit me up!
When I find something, I'll shoot you a PM. :)

Well, went and bought some. I couldn't find any full size boots I liked that fitted properly. I have big feet, but kinda skinny legs, so the boots didn't inspire confidence around my leg. LOL

So I ended up with these, gonna try them out hopefully later on today, but have a feeling my fiance will keep me to busy to get a ride in, then the weather isn't suppose to be to friendly for riding the next too days.

Let me know your opinion please, besides I should have waited! ;) I can always return/exchange them. Or buy a set of full size boots later.
