Hi Guys new to the page, from Ireland. Currently have a k2 and over the weekend after going hard on the throttle in second gear at around 7000/9000rpm when the bike would usually do a wheelie it chugs off the power for a moment and then goes up again. All other gears are spot on no issues. Im thinking a few things, possibly the throttle isnt working in synce with ecu.. The tyres cause the bike could do with a rear tyre as there aint much left on it or a problem with the transmission. Which i hope it aint.Looking for some advice as to where i should start, oh and btw I changed the oil and filter to semi synth just this weekend. Is it an oil issue maybe. Im not sure, cheers. Jason

All other gears go up to redline without hesitation? Does it have any plug in electronics (PC3, BAZZAZ, etc). If it has any of those electronics unplug them and see if it changes the fuel map/load.

Yes all other gears no problem pulls me to red without any blips. Not sure if it does, id have to open her up and find out. Have you had an issue like this also?

I have not had this specific problem. Usually if there is a rpm problem with the engine its either mechanically or electronically limited across all gears. For it to be gear specific really doesn't makes sense since gears are mechanical and not electronically controlled. Basically the best steps forward are to get the bike back to stock or as close as possible (go ride it up to red line and full throttle) then you can trouble shoot a stock bike. Is there anything you or anyone else did to it prior to having this problem? Most people on that year put the aftermarket controller in the tail but I have seen them under the seat.

I have a 2002 750 with 80k miles on it that has/had tons of issues plus I have had many other GSXRs.

Welcome.

I don't understand what you mean by "chugging".

Is the engine actually missing or is the power delivery just not smooth?

If it is the latter, first thing I thought of was a slipping clutch.

Hi pal, so lets I give it plenty of throttle in second gear, The revs fly up till I hit about 7000rpm power dips like it momentarily cuts out for a second, I call it a chug. Then it goes back up again above 7000rpm, every other gear then the bike pulls as it should. No issues

You need to be more concise.

When the "revs fly up till I hit about 7000rpm" is the bike accelerating also?

"power dips like it momentarily cuts out for a second" Is it actually cutting out or is there just a leveling out or dip in the power?

Understand that you are trying to explain your symptoms to people around the world.

OK so if you watch this clip on YouTube you will find that this bike has the same issue as mine. Take a look and tell me what you think? The bike is going on the dyno next week so i can see what the issue is. https://youtu.be/vlFLdwxIuRI

To me that sounded and looked like the clutch was slipping. I didn't hear a miss. He never gets to 6th so I don't know what he is experiencing there.

A clutch slip comes on gradually like in slow motion.
that right there is an electrical problem like a fuel cut for some reason'
If it were a clutch slipping, it would slip in every gear at high rpm

I agree, that sounds like a fuel cut problem. Every gear and rpm is smooth minus that specific one. If it were a tire/clutch problem then first gear would be an issue. The only other though would be the 2nd gear itself (the physical cog). I had a 01 GSXR 750 (used racebike I bought/mistake) that would fall on its face at certain rpms in certain gears and it turns out the tranny gears/forks were worn/bent. It eventually stopped going into gear so we opened the trans the teeth were worn and the forks bent. I don't believe this to be your issue but never know.

How does 2nd gear do with a slow roll up to redline. I would get on the highway in 2nd gear and run those rpm exclusively to see if its 1 100% throttle issue like (TPS). See if 60-80% throttle performs different than 100% throttle up to redline.

I've tried that too with a slow roll to the redline it's still doing the same. But the engine is smooth in every other gear. Also the FI light hasn't came on either. The only way I'll find out exactly what the problem may be is when she goes up on the dyno. But it is a strange one because it's only in the one gear. Hence why i posted it could usually figure most other issues out myself but this one was a bit odd. Thanks for your input chaps. More heads make easier thinking 😆
