Hi guys, installed the 1127 Katana engine into my 87 GSXR 1100 a few years ago, the guy I got the engine from said to use the GSXR complete ignition system so I did. Runs great and all, but which spark plugs should I use, the Kat takes a resistor style JR9B and the GSXR takes the standard J9A. I assume the Kat ignition was digital then, it was Suzukis policy to run resistor plugs for their digi sytems back then. Would I be better off with the Katana system(which I probably won't do unless I could find a cheap one)and which plugs should I use? I assume the advance curve is different between the 2 also?
Thanks in advance

If it's running great, I'd say stick with the gsxr system you have on it. The only real difference between resistor and non-resistor plugs is radio interference, which is a non-issue with modern low voltage COP ignition systems, but was with CDI and standard coil ignitions. I'm assuming you're running a CDI ignition? (solid state but with high-tension plug wires).

I fairly sure that the ignition timing/advance is controlled by the spark signal generator on the motor, not in the ignition system itself on those engines. I doubt that it Kat and gsxr engines would be different though. They are basically earlier generation gsxr engines anyway.
