Hi I am Shawn, I recently just purchased a 07 GSXR 600 motor for a gixxer kart project. I am 17 and would love to ride but parents won't let me (any tips on how to convince them would be great). So for now my gixxer kart in progress is the closest thing to riding. Hope to talk to all you guys on the forum.

yea my parents were never for me getting a bike. wanted one since i was 16, finally got one at 21 so there isnt much they could do to stop me. they did however help me out with getting gear. the bike was my bday present to me. so the gear was what they got me. but definitely respect the 'rents as they give you a place to live and food to eat

welcome to the site

if your living at home with your parents i suggest you listen to them till you are old enough to make your own decisions....respect
hell, Im just happy to meet a 17yr old that still listens to their parents!! my 16yr old neice just got suspended for bringing rum and oj to school and sharing with her friend... where was her mom you ask?..... in court for a DUI!!!! just had a conversation with her recently on how her mom is a POS and how she should strive to be the opposite of her... guess that didnt help!

Easy way to get a bike:

Step 1- Buy a POS car, a Yugo or Festiva does nicely.

Step 2- Demolish the car

Step 3- When asked, tell them "Hey, if I had a motorcycle I'd have never wrecked the car!"

Failing that, don't pull that "I'm 18 and they can't stop me" routine. They might not be able to prevent you having a bike, but they can damn sure throw your ass out on the curb when you're 18. Keep that in mind.

Aside from that, do what you want, and drive my insurance rates up a bit while you're at it.

Here's some advice with getting a bike.
I was 18 when I got my first bike. Just buy it and bring it home. That's what I did.

I didn't finish what I was saying...

My parents saw that I was old enough to decide what I wanted and work hard to get it so they payed for my insurance and never said another thing about it.

My parents were definitely opposed to me getting a bike. So I waited until I moved out, saved up and bought one.
Their one demand was that I bought insurance for it so that's what I did.
They still aren't happy but they aren't pissed either.
