Just bought an older gsxr 600 from a guy. It’s a 2007 and his ex-girlfriend stole his bike keys. He ordered a new ignition cylinder and it wouldn’t start the bike completely. So he put the old one back in and I’m wondering where I could find the OEM ignition cylinder for an 07 gsxr and if I have to get the specific year or would an 08 work on the bike as well? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome.

The OEM switch has a built in resistor and if the ECM does not see it the starter will crank the bike but it will not start/run. It will also start flashing "FI" in the temp window. The cheap Ebay replacements usually do not work.

The easiest thing is to call a locksmith and have them make a key for the ignition. Locally, they are all mobile now and charge about $100. This way you will have a key that fits the ignition, fuel tank and cowl/trunk release.

The other route is to order a new set for about $350 which includes all the replacement locks. You will have to deal with getting the fuel cap open somehow as some of the bolts holding it in are under the fuel cap.

Last would be buying a used on Ebay or similar. It would be nice to get the whole lock set otherwise you still have to deal with the fuel cap and cowl release locks.

They did use that lock set on a bunch of bikes.

+1 on getting a new key made. This makes it look simple. Available for $60.

It's a hassle and not needed if you have the ignition key. Remove and empty the tank. Remove the fuel pump. Go through the pump opening with a long screwdriver or a bit with a long extension to unscrew two screws holding the latch cover in place. At that point you can start removing parts.

That is clever. I had not thought of going through the fuel pump opening before.

As I understand it, the lock design is such that you can't jimmy it open when locked. But with the screws off, the latch cover and latch parts can be removed to the point that the cap will pop open. Here's one where they had the keys but it was so corroded that the lock wouldn't turn:

So I found on Cheapcycleparts.com the OEM parts for the bike and ordered a new lock cylinder for about $207 after everything. Do you think that'll work? I figured that it should. It is coming with new keys as well.

How are you going to deal with the gas cap and rear compartment locks? Feeling lucky? There's one chance in 1,024 that your new keys will open each lock and one chance in 16,384 that they will open both locks.
