After some research over a year ago, I went with a name brand Sena. Because I rarely get to ride with others that use a headset, I opted for the less expensive SMH5 - Amazon had them just under 1 bill shipped. It will link to 3 other headsets- but you have to push the button to toggle between the them- a feature I"ve never used- yet. I have used it to talk with one other multiple times and it works well.
It is line of sight however, so if your on opposite sides of a big hill/mountain- or too far away >400 meters- it doesn't pick up till it gets back in range, so problem.
It's nice to use it to hands free make and receive calls if you want to, get the voice commands for GPS, etc. Talk to Siri- which will open apps for you- all voice command, etc. Siri will read a text message for you too. Siri will make a call or send a text message if it's on your contact list also. Really nice when you';re going to meet people for a ride, etc.

I know you can get helmets with them installed, but with NO modifications to the helmet AT ALL, I easily installed mine in minutes!

Fast forward until recently, when my stick on microphone in side the lower front part became 'un-stuck' Brilliant me tried to super glue it back in place- and from that point on, the microphone quit working. I took it off- still didn't work anymore.
So I go online, watch some product comparison YouTube, etc. There are 1-2 other name brand quality bluetooth headsets out there now. While these name brand ones may be made in China, the quality is different.
And there is all the cheaper, lower quality Chi-com stuff.

So, I was about to get a higher watt- longer distance intercom one- for 3 x what I paid.
Funny how when you're on the market for another job, product purchase priorities change a bit.
So, I also found the Sena product stick on- (not the boom/bar kind) online for this Sena headset.
Less than $10 shipped- 2 day Prime.
I put it as a gift form Santa to me under our tree ;-)

So instead of a product that will link to more intercoms at once- which so far I wouldn't be able to use anyways for ~$2-300, I'm fixing what I got for less than $10.

I don't listen to music with mine, rare phone call, rare intercom linking (which is so nice to be able to talk to your friend while riding, about terrain, poppo, a tight corner, and it's great for GPS.
YMMV

Are any of you using intercom links on your rides regularly?

Yeah I use the Sena S20 on my helmet, it just clamps on and I bought the unit and microphone/speaker kit separate for a total of 175. Usually it sells for 300. Both brand new so go figure. I've only used it for phone calls and GPS/Music. Never tried out the intercom since I typically don't ride with people. Works great, never had a problem with it.

Thanks Vader,

If you ever get the chance to go on a dedicated ride with a friend or three, if they also have a headset- try it out for sure. Most of them will play your music, etc., and only cut in intercom when the other rider(s) is speaking to you.

It's really cool to talk about conditions, etc.

I've used it several times on some twisty rides with other riders and as long as you're in the same ballpark, it really works well. Road conditions, traffic, etc.

Anyone else use the intercom on your headset much?

Are these the helmets people use to vlog on YouTube?
I’ve thought about maybe recording trackday sessions with audio where you point out good corners and bad, good lines and bad.
I’ve seen some of these track videos (and a bunch of the vlogs) on YouTube.

Hey there JC,
I've never Vlog'd, yet. I've heard some of the them have there own system for the audio?
I've seen some good vids like this about tracks and even the IOM course from the riders perspective, etc.

I'm like a human mechanic by trade.
You sure it's not fractured (broken) somewhere in there?
Post it up, or better yet, PM me here?

** PS, I"m still using that Senna 5, and actually intercom -ing, Siri voice to test, and Siri 'read my last test' t obet text, and still making and answering phone calls too.
It does have trouble linking up though, even with another Senna. It usually works though.
I need an up;grade for sure.

I have (and only occasionally use) the Sena-5. It works ok. Not very loud though, and difficult to here when using navigation from my phone. That is really the only time I use it. Just got a new helmet today, so maybe it will be better in the new lid.

Right. Even with my foam ear plugs, squished down to a point to it goes into my ear canal some, then expands, I can still hear mine.
I agree though, there is better ones. Hope yours gets better.
