There's a very sharp decreasing radius right turn getting off then highway by my house. I take this turn so much I have it down to a science. Well yesterday I had the bike leaned way over and my rear tire broke free on some sand. Bike was sliding and spun me around but I was able to pull the clutch in to stop it and lift the bike up and ride right off getting back on the highway. Have a tiny scrape on the right mirror, t rex racing frame slider ground down pretty good but held up great and took all of the impact. Bent the rear brake lever, seems like the brake is stuck on ever so slightly now, and the exhaust heat shield on the side got scraped a little. No damage to the paint or plastics otherwise or anything else thank god.

I had a race suit on, alpinestars air boots, and alpinestars gp plus gloves and wasn't hurt at all. Right boot is a little worn down and right knee puck got ground down on an angle.

Already ordered a new right rearset. Even though I probably could've got away with just the lever. Trying to find to frame sliders I want. I really like the t rex texas racing ones that were on the bike but can't seem to find them anywhere. They are the no cut type which I'm iffy about but that one worked fine lol. Also can't seem the find the heat shield on the yoshi exhaust. Want the bike 100% again within a week. Luckily my mistake looks like it's only costing me like $170 bucks. Shouldn't have gotten that low while the rosds are still cold and sandy. Can never get to comfortable on a road or turn you ride all of the time.

I actually laughed when I got off the highway and looked at the bike. Thought for sure it was going to be fuckeddd up.

Shout out to T-Rex Racing. Those were their no cut frame sliders and that was between a 35 and 40mph slide.

Sounds like a pretty painless lesson. The sliders and the leathers did their job.

It is that time around me also where the roads are dry but from all the snow/rain there is debris to watch out for.

I would check that rear brake before you ride it again. Even though it "stuck on ever so slightly" it is enough to block the port to the reservoir. As the brake heats up and the fluid expands, it will apply more brake action and is likely to lock up the rear wheel on it's own. This may cause you to test your gear again :crying

Yes I knew better than to get the low when the roads are sandy and cold, but I had just taken the turn 2 days earlier and had no problems. Lesson learned.

I don't plan on riding it again until I get the new rearset on thursday. Ordered everything today only cost around $150 and that's with new heat sheilds and bolts for boths sides from yoshimura. I'll live with the boot being a little scuffed up lol. Just glad the bike is ok

First time I read it I thought you did that while staying on the bike and correcting. Couldn't help but think "Damn he's a badass!"

I think he still sounds like a badass!

That's a win in my book!

I've been going out these last couple days and this kinda stuff reminds me to take it easy in the early spring.

I always tell myself the tires are cold, the pavement's cold, there's debris on the road...

Lmao I wish. But I do remember like literally thinking "Jon pull in the fucking clutch" while the bike was about to keep sliding and go off the road.

Thanks Todd. I keep checking on the bike everytime I'm home ti make sure it's really ok and it really is. Thank God for frame sliders and gear! Definitely taking it easy in the turns now(which is hard because it's my favorite part!)

I really scrub those tires in good before I take any turns. People must think I'm on drugs zigzagging down the road for a mile lol

That turn often has debri I just didnt see it and was too comfortable taking it like that. Ill chalk it up to a cool story and $150 lesson, lol.

The way you handled it probably worked out for the best...wouldn't want a simple lowside slide to turn into a lowside/highside combo.

Yeah, not trying to give you advice. :wink:thumbup: Just reminding myself to take it easy cause I've been riding pretty hard this early in spring for us northerners...

Stating " I have it down to a science" shows the problem: you never have a public road down to a science, EVER. There are a series of corners leaving my neighborhood that I have to take EVERY day, and every day I treat them like they may have sand or oil on them, because that's what you do with a public road. If you ever treat it like a track, you have already set yourself up for failure.

Glad you're okay, but never treat a road like a track. There are simply too many variables, and you learned first-hand that no amount of experience on a corner means you're going to take it the same way.

i also lowsided my bike couple mounth ago ... have a woodcraft sliders on my L5 . they worked well . just few scraches on rear fairing , and front upper fairing is bent that's it . but bike was sliding about 50 meters .

Man my story to the tee only I let go of the clutch but held on the right sliding with the bike for about 15ft and no damage to the bike. I didn't have full race gear was wearing moto jeans leather jacket and gloves my jeans have 3 little holes and knee got scraped but not too bad. Im just amazed how the sliders took it all.
