I have a 97 gsxr 750
had it 5 years
had my problems with it, fixed em
last summer i left my bike at my friends house(caught in the rain)
I was having electrical problems at that time
when i bought the bike, the kid eliminated the
kickstand kill switch(not correctly)
After searching forever i found the short corrected it, happy again
needless to say when i left it at my buddies, he try to do me a favor(dumbass)!!
He charged my battery with his truck, while it was running.
People always told me this will hurt your electrical system!!
I arrived and freaked out.
but the bike started, worked properly, operated properly
so no harm no foul right,
now couple months later i have been going through batteries like crazy,
bike doesn't want to stay running, while riding
hesitating,(this is bad, with the cherries on your tail!!)
When i put a fresh battery, i cool for 2 days, after that, back to the charger,
if i wait to long, the battery is just shot, didn't realize in the beginning.
Do you think it is the alternator???Do they work just like car alternators???
What should i do???
Please help, Spring is coming fast!!!!!!!

Replace Stator and rectifier on your motorcycle
Stator is the black cover on the lower part of the bike
rectifier is on the left hand side of your subframe and you will have to remove yourside plastic to get to it and while you have it off inspect the wires to make sure that they have not melted together.
can take pixs if needed.
You could seperate and isolate which one is your problem but I would just buy both to make sure its good

yeah either replace the whole generator or the rectifier my bike did the same thing...once i put a used generator on it ive not have a problem since... the dealer wanted almost $200 just for the rectifier which is no bigger then a car brake pad!

What does the stator do?? Like an alternator?? What about the rectifier??

I have a 97 gsxr 750 with the problem,
But i also have a 98 gsxr 600 i am building,
Same rectifier and stator?? just checking,
to see if i could use them to eliminate where my problem is!
Anyone got these for sale, i know ebay, but just checking.

Its most likely the Startor, which is like an alternator, it turns mechanical energy into electrical energy, which charges your battery, could also be the regulator/rectifier which is mounted on the subframe like audi said.

i think it might be altinater not much mechanicle experience but dad recons if its a dodgey alter then it will eat batterys

Your buddy is right and wrong. The stator is attached to the side cover, but you can unscrew it from the case cover. The rectifier/regulator is a completly different piece. not sure if you can use the old one you can look up the part numbers on ronayers.com and see if they are the same if so then yes you can, i'll be able to look it up once I get home.
