I'm new to the sportbike world and don't have a lot of knowledge about any of them. Recently I was given a 2005 Ducati 999. However, I have a slight issue with the way it rides. I found out that a lot of Ducs are not made for the typical commuting and around town riding. I'm curious as to how the GSX-R stands up to the commuting and around town riding? Especially at low RPMs.

GSXR's perform great at low RPM riding. Mine was great for around town riding and it could easily be taken to a race track and put to the test. They're greta bikes.

How were you just given a Ducati?

I'm not worried about it getting away from me. Yea, it's a lot of bike but I'm not one to take the power lightly. I'm not a newbie to bikes, just sportbikes.

It actually belonged to my fiance's ex husband but it was in her name. When he couldn't make the payments on it anymore she took it back, paid it off and gave it to me.

Yea they do. There's a 600mi, 6000mi, 12000mi, etc... costing anywhere between $800.00 - $1400.00 each time from my understanding. I got the bike with 13,000mi on the clock and I can't be sure that the 12,000mi service has been done.

Replacing belts at $200.00 for the set and about $700.00 for valve check/adjust can add up pretty quick.
