I've got a 99 gsxr 750. Something leaks down the side of my bike, slowly, like it'll take a week, once I clean it off, for it to be back.
Smells like gas and oil. My cousin said it's my petcock valve, I took it into the shop ordees the part and had them also "fix" my seat. One of the bolts to hold the seat down was stripped. Long story short, they completely drilled out the bolt for under my seat now I can't put anything in it, it's just a big ass hole, and they also told me I have no petcock valve. I called them when I got home and said the problem is still here, if there is no petcock valve why didn't you guys just figure it out. Anyways the place sucks, but it's the only shop within 50 miles.
So I lifted the tank cover and took some pictures. It's leaking like a MF. But I have no idea what the issue is exactly.

With that info I gave.you above cab you tell me what's up with these pics. At least say my spark plugs are done or the oil is leaking into a cylinder etc etc. I'd greatly appreciate it.
Or if I need to take better pics or pics of some where else, please let me know. My bike is constantly smelling like gas and it's probably not the best idea to be riding it like this, though I have been.

Thanks ahead of time,
Chris

Where is the leak? What side of bike? Where does it start? Is this only when it is running or also when it just sits?

Start by cleaning the bike really well then check it daily till you find the leak just starting.

[Left side of bike underneath the gas tank, i posted pictures. I ran it with the tank cover open, i cleaned it up a bit, wasnt leaking during the 10 mins i ran it and looked. It usually leaks when its sitting but i can always smell it, well most the time when i get off the bike. But like i said ill clean up the gas/oil that leaks and it will stay clean for about 5 days. Then it starts leaking. Or it leaks sooner than 5 days, and 5 days is just how long it takes to leak on the outside of the bike where i can clearly see it.

Check out the pictures though.

Hard to see fuel leaking. The area below the fuel pump looks cleaner than the rest of the tank bottom. I suspect a slow leak at that gasket. I'd replace that gasket - likely a good opportunity toflush the fuel pump and clean the pickup screen while you are at it.

I also noticed you are missing a hose on your air box. I think that is the crank case breather hose but not sure, it has been a while since I had a fuel injected bike. That might be your oil smell. Also check inside your air box and make sure the little foam filter is in place where that hose hooks up. It is supposed to catch oil blown into the air box.

Can't tell from the pictures but if that big hose is missing do you have the drain hose hooked up? Any oil in your air box would drip onto the engine and not the ground if that was not hooked up...it would also only do this when the bike sat due to the air box being a negative pressure in operating conditions.

Missing hose? I dont know, i busted out my service manual and am going through that, after class tonight I'm going back out there to work on it, remove the tank completely so i can see whats going on..........i took the air box off though.....not too bad, but there is something.

Thanks for all your help, it's greatly appreciated

Hi I guess it is result of overvolumed crankcase ventilation with oil mist. I would do compression test procedure.

Also I think this is an air restrictor and could be removed. But I don't sure.

As for seat you can use a U-Clip a screw if the hole is small enough they work really well in places that no longer have a grommet or screw backing. You sure it’s not from your gas tank and do you fill your tank up to the brim if so sloshing will cause it to go to the over flow tube. And pressure build up can do it too. Vapors can condense into liquid. I know this because I have a 2 gallon tank for mixing fuel cleaners an gas and have a screw on top of port hole to bleed of pressure. Usually when I fill to the 2 gal line there’s about 1/4 of a gallon space and I see liquid some times come out of hole when I remove screw. Obviously it’s not the fuel below but the vapors condensing again. Careful with over filling gas tank.

So, I thought I might need a new fuel pump but decided to get a new fuel pump gasket first. I did that, and replaced the old gasket with a new one, and it no longer leaks fuel. But I have to charge my bike after every time i ride it. I charge it up full and I can turn the bike off maybe 3 or 4 times max (leave my house to go to the dtore, turn off and back on, then the bank off and back on, get food off and barely back on, make it home and charge it.) before it doesn't start up anymore and I Need to jump it im.pretty sure this is because when I bought the new battery a couple months ago.....I didn't charge it up when I bought it? When i bought it I just installed it and rode it, which i had no problems. After starting it and stopping about 3 times it didn't start so i had to push it home. Ever since that I have to do that every 3 or 4 stops, recharge it......so i.fried my brand new battery?
Also one last thing, I tighten my.chain and it's good for a ride or 2 maybe when i get baxk home my chain is loose again? What's thay issue? I read that some years the srads had a problem with the tensioner?

It's a big hole. The shop bored it the f out. The hole on the seat is even not a circle it broke from being so thin around part of the hole AND the frame. Smh never going there again.

Good job with the fuel leak. The charging issue isn’t related.

Check and clean your battery connections. Also check your grounds scattered through the bike.

Put your battery in a good trickle charger over night and charge it fully. With the battery connected and the key & kill switch off measure the voltage across the battery - look for about 12.5V DC. Start the bike and with the engine warm at 3000 rpm look for about 14.5 volts. A failed stator or rectifier may not be charging it while you ride.

You'd only get about 14.1v at 3k rpm? 14.5v @ 5k rpm?
Yeah, that was the about part. Depends on system health. My 1100 only puts out 13.8 at 5000 rpm but it maintains the battery just fine. I figured if he was at 3K we should see over 14.

Time to change your stator and rectifier. You can try to grab a new battery. But I’d install a volt meter. Or test with a volt meter your battery with big running. You should at idle be in the 14 then to 13’s when warm. If your still in twelves your stator or rectifier has taken a shit.

No doesn’t matter what RPM your rectifier monitors battery voltage. Meaning if it drops to 13 is because your battery is now trickle charging from stator as constantly at 14 volts can burn up a cell or battery. It’s why when cold on a cold start it’ll do 14 at idle. Then 13.2 after 10 min into my ride. Rectifiers do some serious calculations and shunting. It’s why it gets hot with no lights on. In theory you want just the right amount of accessories using current. This keeps both the RR and stator from over heating. When you turn off your lights or unplug now that’s about 35w to 60w the rectifier has to shunt because it’s not being burned up by headlight.
so you being at 13 volts just means your battery is fully charge andmajority of power is being shunted to ground.

Alright so bike off, with trickle charge over night it's at..
Bike off 13.01..
Idle is 12.45
idle warm Is 12.49
3k is 12.75

So whats that mean I need a new everything?
Damnit
