What do the different oil ratings mean? The oil I put in my bike a few weeks ago says API SJ. what does this mean? I didn't realize this until after i had changed my oil. The tag on the bike says something different, don't remember right now. Is this gonna harm my engine in any way? I use yamalube because I have always been told that its the best, when a suzuki dealer says use yamalube it must be good right? Any info would be great.

Typically you want an oil with a JASO MA rating to be sure it is formulated for motorcycles, but YAMA lube is good stuff.

STAY AWAY from oil with an EC rating though (energy conserving) this stuff can cause clutch slippage. Most car oils as EC rated

I ahve read TONS of independant testing material, and the three top oils for motorcycles HANDS DOWN are
Mobil one MOTORCYLE oil
Amsoil full synth
Motul synthesis 5000 (I think that is it..... the $$$$$ one  )

I use motul 5100.... semi synth. VERY good oil, without the HUGE $$$$
Amsoil; is GREAT but hard to find.
