Core Moto is taking pre orders on a lightweight forged aluminum wheel that from a $$$ to weight savings ratio is almost worth it to me... :wink

They have the option of a 5.5 or 6" rear wheel.

I am leaning toward keeping the 5.5 and continuing to run the 180/60 tires made for that width but wanted to know what some of you track guys think?

I remember going from 5.5 and 180/55 to 6.0 and 190/55 about 10 years ago on a BMW but that was before they came out with the purpose built 180/60 tires. The bike felt like it took more effort to transition but the feel at lean was much better, kinda like lying in bed instead of walking a balance beam. But now with 180/60 tires, this may be a moot point. Which makes one wonder why the liter bikes don't run 5.5 rims for a minimal weight and $ savings on tires.

Any thoughts?

I'd lean toward the 5.5. I have run 180/55, 180/60 (which is really close to a 190) and 190/55 on mine. But I haven't run a 6" rim to feel the difference so I may have an unqualified opinion. :wink

Yeah, style wise not great but from a performance standpoint, you get the "durability" of forged aluminum with weight within spitting distance of magnesium and carbon fiber at almost 1/2 price.

Made in America, too.

I can tell you that they will be no where near what a Magnesium or Carbon wheel weigh. I have a set of both and the weight difference is night and day. The Mag wheel will be close to the Carbon wheel. The core wheel will be pretty close to the stock wheel weight, If you are looking to shed pounds go with the Carbon or Magnesium wheel. If for looks then by all means CoreMoto they look fantastic

I have the wheels weighed in my build thread.

Rear wheel weighed an impressive 4#'s less.
Front wheels not as impressive 1# and change.

I was hoping for a little more weight loss particularly up front, but I'm happy. They make transitions at the track much easier. Braking a touch easier.
I still am looking to tune the suspension to get the bike dialed in even better.
