You'll need a spring compression tool.
It is under tension and could be dangerous to remove without one and will be difficult if not impossible to reinstall without the tool also.

+1. Do not...DO NOT just remove that place. It's just like a strut on a car. Under high pressure. And if you DID get the place off by hand, as soon as it came off pieces would do flying, probably losing a couple hundred dollars in parts.

Take it to a shop and bring a black rattle can with you, and offer a tech to do it for beer or a tip.

Simple spring compressors are cheap as all hell. And don't rattle-can a spring, I think the paint would come off due to the movement of the spring. I would recommend powdercoating.

Its a motha.....to get off , simple spring compressors aint the trick , well the ones you use on a car atleast aint the trick. If the shop will do it for a couple bucks take it . I speak from experience Bro , I did get it done but it was hell....Used simple coil compressors, but they are not designed for such a small spring . Any way take it to a shop pull it POWEDER coat it........not rattle can it and you will be happy. Thats what i did to my spring pulled it myself powder coated it myself........it looks gr8.......peace out:thumbup:
