2003 gsxr 600.....Is it necessary to remove the nut on the right side of the bike to remove the pivot shaft?? Seems to me if the shaft comes out that side why would it be necessary to remove the specialized nut???? I havent tried to strong arm it yet...the manual shows them pull it out with their fingers tips.

If you're talking about the nut that has notches in it, then yes you have to remove that. The socket that fits it is like $80 from Suzuki, but you might be able to find one at Cycle Gear or some place similar fora little less

I guess the slang term for that special tool is a castle socket. It cost alot from the dealer or you can just use a punch and a hammer. One good tap will break it loose.

If you have a grinder make your own. You also need a hex tool for the inside. pics below are my 2 tools for this:
The universal front axel tool works with removing the swingarm as well.
