I've heard and read that but never thought it through. My assumption is that the center of contact with a wider tire moves farther out as you lean the bike so you need to lean more to get the center of gravity inside enough to counteract the centripetal force which is unchanged for a given speed and radius turn.Are you aware that larger tyres mean you have to lean deeper for a given corner? So, larger tyres=slower cornering.
I recently went from a 160 to a 150 on my sumo and the bike definitely turns better.
