ok heres the deal. when my bike is running even after warmed up theres a ticking sound. almost sounds like a clock ticking but louder. if u rev the engine it gets louder as well. doesnt really sound like a knock in the motor or anythi g. ive been told it couldbe a timing belt or timing chain or something? is this a possibility and if so how much would it be to get this timing belt adjusted. also one more question what should by bike idle at? its at about 1800 rite now that same someone told me it should be at around 1200?? thanks in advance guys..

maybe if somebody takes the average idles of every bike in the world and averages them together, somebody can give you a rough estimate, ha j/k what bike are you sporting, and some of the older bikes just need a Manual Chain Tensioner for the timing chain which arent real expensive, but in time the chain will just stretch again and possibly break, making big problems, so look into maybe just gettin a new chain and oem tensioner to save problems but not save money

Set the idle around 1,200 would be about right.

Your ticking noise could be an exhaust leak. Yah it will sound just like a valve ticking noise if at the headers. Looks like you have a 2003 or so, so I figure good chance the headers have been off and new ones or such put on. Try just getting in there to snug them down. Had to do it all the time with race headers on a car. Nothing in the world would keep them from loosening up. You might make sure your exhaust isn't able to swing about and is secured good to keep the exhaust system from moving about and causing the headers from loosening up. might just be time for some new gaskets in there. Some change them and some say ah they look good to me ha ha ha. The white ones soak in water for a while so that they expand then you get a form fit tightening down.

pacific gsxr. the loose headers was the first thing i thought of as well. they are all snug. it kinda sounds like its coming from roughly around the throttle bodies area. like in that region, its not down lower or anything. it just pisses me off bc i know its not supposed to be there. oh any by the way, not only does the ipod work but so does the d&d  but like i said its more the fact that i know its there and dont want it. haha. oh and its an 04. 03 was wayyyy to ugly for me :headshake

All of these bikes tend to have a slight tick (valve noise) that usually goes away when the engine is warm. The timing chain tensioner (not the timing chain itself) tends to go out on these bikes and aggravate the ticking noise. I'm pretty sure the tensioner can be replaced without pulling the motor.

i know its very common on the start up. only thing is what about 4 hours later? haha. even when its warmed up it still does it. so timing chain tensioner ? not the chain itself then? ill have to look into it and see what thats going to run me.
