Todd's K6 Liter Track bike - new to me

5436 Views 83 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Todd_Sails
In an effort to somewhat preserve my K5 Literbike, I bought a K6 Literbike just over an our away from me.
This bike is well set up by the original owner.
In a nutshell- the Original owner had crashed it on the street, Bought it back from salvage and built it into a failry well sorted track bike.
The original owner had had the motor worked on and he posted in this for sale thread that it dynoed then at 179 RWHP.

Here's the original For Sale thread from STT forum, it sold then in June, 2016.

Then my PO sold it to me 2 days ago.
He had mods to it as well.
I guess the motor went in 2017, cause he had the motor completely rebuilt by Turn One Racing. PO says he thinks it put down 175 RWHP after that build.
In this invoice, it also states 'degreeing cams'! Maybe it has those changeable cam sprockets too.

This is from my sellers STT post:

Bike comes with some spares/extras including:
  • Extra set of wheels
  • Champion generator + Chickenhawk tire warmers
  • New Suzuki clutch kit (doesn't need it yet, but have the kit)
  • Pitbull Axle pins
  • Front + Rear stands
  • Extra belly pan

Bike upgrades include:
  • Bazzaz traction control + fuel mapper + quick shifter with TC activation light and fuel map switch
  • Woodcraft rear sets
  • Forks have Ohlins internals
  • Rear Elka shock with high/low frequency adjustments
  • Brembo 19x20 master cylinder
  • Brembo calipers
  • Ohlins steering damper
  • Vortex quick release fuel cap
  • New radiator (this season)
  • Replaced coolant hoses with new silicon hoses (this season)
  • Motion pro throttle and start/stop switch
  • Full exhaust with low profile muffler
  • Manual cam chain tensioner installed

I've got it now. The fairings are a little rough. My seller states he low sided it a few times LOL
He rides in the STT Advanced group, and it still has the A sticker from a TD weekend in October 2021.

I also threw the rear rim that was on the Track bike when I got it into the recycle bin.
The drive side bearing was loose in the wheel. The rim was bent, out of round, and had a wobble in it.
That's why I got the Ebay one.
I thought about trying to sell a bent rim, but with the bearing area a little loose also I decided against it.

It was 50F today, I got a little work done on the track bike.

I got the front wheel off and and figured out how to change the front pads on my Brembro's w/o looking it up or Youtubing it.
The old pads still had about 1/4-1/3 left! I changed them anyway. I'm keeping the former pads in case I need them near the end of next season.
I used the brake cleaner spray and got things cleaned up a bit too.

Then, I noticed my radiator overflow reservoir was pretty much empty. I haven't ridden the bike sind that last 'off' last September. I figure it was on it's side for a bit and probably drained it out the overflow.
Concerned, I took off the radiator cap and it was a little low. I put a funnel in the neck and added some Engine Ice I had. I put about 1/4 cup in, and 1/8 a cup leaked back out!
I filled the overflow res. to the upper line. All good!

I realize the this K6 Liter track bike w LOT's of track goodies looks like crap like this right now.
But it fires over instantly and runs well. Everything is good to go now that I've fixed a few minor things.
I've got a like new set of Armour bodies to dress it up too!

OK if you were here, raise your hand, or maybe a 'like'?
Or tell me I'm doing it all wrong, whatever.

Bro, I just spent the last half hour going over all 4 pages of this thing :p

Interesting stuff even though I don't have a 1000

Thanks Hyde!

I got the tail section on from my newer Armour bodies, and the front fender

I also put my new Zero Gravity Double Bubble windscreen on the Armour Body fairings today.
I installed a clear one- I thought the clear would look my 'racey'. MotoGP bikes have clear windscreens.
I also put the Dzeus fasteners on the lowers and put the top and belly pan together in my basement.
I didn't take pics though, I will when I mount them soon.
I'm leaving them Primer for now.

I need to get one of those head-lift stands, currently using a 5-ton wench & soft cargo-strap wrapped around the triple tree hung from the ceiling rafters. Not the most stable get up but it gets the front wheel off the floor when needed.

That sounds very stable! Before I got my front stand w/ my Track bike, I wouod hang mine in my garage too.
I've got 2 sets of ceiling eyebolts that I put a ratchet strap on and hand the fronts of my bikes too! They are hung across ceiling joists in my garage too. That actually works great for many things. I've even hung the back of my bike once when I was adding some shims to my rear shock.
I have a thread on it- let me look real quick

The ceiling in my 12x16 shed/shop is open with exposed rafters, so I ran a 4ft 2x4 across some rafters with a short chain loop hung around it. I connect the hook on the hoist to the chain and lift away. Has a little bit of sway down at wheel level but nothing unmanageable, I just make sure to un-torque any bolts/axle nuts before lifting it up. Not ideal but it works.

And I've never tried the Vesrah racing pads. Do you think they increase wear on the rotors? Man, replacing those suckers ain't cheap!

Your hanger set up sounds great too!
NO idea about the wear/vesrah pads. They were on my track bike when I got it so I'm going with the same- the same feel. It's more than adequate for me.

I got the upper and lower track fairing on today too.
It was a bit of a hassle, but not too bad.
The lower left rear if supposed to mount to the piece that holds the kickstand and kickstand sensor like th OE fairings do. But that whole piece is gone and not in the parts box that came with the bike too.
It's $92.52 on Ron Ayers- for that little bracket.
I'll call the salvage place tomorrow and see if they have one, and what it cost.
I think I'll make a bracket myself maybe.
I put the new vortex frame sliders on their too.
It's pretty much ready to go! I'll clean it up a bit more too.

OH yea, I also don't like how that front stand hits the faring too when it's in the pin in the steering stem too. I'll try and fix the pin, or use my crappy stand fro0nt stand that goes under the forks.

Turns out, my Lockhart Phillips stands?- I think they went out of business. I tried there FB page- no posts in years, no answer to the Phone # either. Nice stands though.
I'll try and fab a new piece/pin to go in the front steering stem.

I finished Fabbing the lower left rear fairing stay, that's gone b/c PO took off the bracket that bolts up for the kickstand and sensor.

After much ado- it works well and is solid.

That picture looks so much better than it looked after my little high side last September!

Pins to fit different makes & models of bikes on a head-lift stand?
My front lift stand that uses a pin insert that goes into the steering stem hole in bottom has been bent. Enough so that the upper part of the front stand was hitting the bottom of the front faring under the front in the wheel well. I didn't like that on my newer farings.
So I looked at the other pins that insert into it that came with the 'parts box' for my track bike.
Hyjde was right, they are pins for different bikes. The only one that fits is the one in the stand.
It's bent. I tried bending it back with a sledge. Didn't work. Not sure how or when it got bent.
So I took it out and turned it around so it's bent the opposite direction now! Now it fits great with lots of clearance on the fairing!

I also started and ran my small generator I use for the warmers with 2 shop lights plugged into to it too.
It ran Ok, getting ready for next track season!

It's a beautiful day and I almost went for a ride. But at 40F, I still held off.

Hey there people!

Yesterday I decided to take my track bike 'around the block'- to bed the new pads and give it a little shake down.

Took the front stand off. I tried to push it forward and turn it some on the rear stand, like I can do with my other bikes rear stand.
Well F- me. It rolled it off the rear stand, and as I figured out what was happening,
the biuke fell over!! It fell on some garage stuff near the wall. I would have to get on the top side to lift it back up.
Luckily my son was home and he pulled on the left clip on while I lifted the tail section- we got it up.

So I go to ride it, 1/2 a block away- it starts raining. I come home and he's shut the garage door! I call him- no answer. * The track bike has no kickstand! I can't reach the outdoor key pad for the garage door from the bike.
I lean it up against my SUV. OPen the door, all is good.

When it fell over- it broke the end off of the alloy Brembro froint brake lever.
Now I have a shorty lever LOL. I filed the edge some.

Today I decided to get my new to me trailer on my SUV and check the lights. All lights work hundred percent - check.
Then I decided to try to put it in the The front wheel Chok and got it in there no problem by myself.
THen I decided I wanted to get it out of the Front wheel chok by myself. I have never been able to do this before. The front wheel brace I had bought is kind of captive and makes it hard to get it to pop out.
So while waiting for my son to help me I tried a few new techniques. I stood to the left of the bike and grabbed underneath the upper triple tree like where the key would’ve went. A nice yank on that and balanced up top of the flip over thing at the back of the wheel. I got it out myself also! Yay!

I also modified the mount of my front fender so that the back of the tire would not hit the back of the fender like it was doing a little bit with the tire nubbies from the track. I got to use my new conical drill bit and worked awesome to drill one more mount hole on the back of the fender that wasn’t drilled yet.

Primer matches the SUV paint!

Chuck- fixed the tire/fender clearance problem

I am able to push the trailer from my side yard to the driveway, and back again easily by hand! That's how light the trailer is!

Getting ready for Autobahn Mem. Day weekend! I'll be sleeping 3 nights in the back of the SUV- with a mattress back there, etc. This year I decided I'm taking my Propane burner I use for Crawfish boils, (in TX), and deep frying my Turkeys- I'll heat and cook some food on this! Looking forward to this season, and taking it easy on the out lap LOL.

Enough room on that trailer for another bike and a few crates of Bud ;)

Another bike FS. Plenty of room for my pop up tent/awning, chairs, propane cooker, collers, Gear, Generator for the tire warmers, coolers, etc.

Not so sure about the Bud's though. I'm usually a homebrew beer drinker myself.

At first I had the same problem getting my bike out of my wheel chock. Found that if I lay down a short piece or 2x4 to give my left foot something to push against, it's easy as pie.

As far as I know we're still waiting for Vertical Scope to decide if they want to do the swag run Tin was talking about. I'd like to have some of those too.
