hey everyone. I just found my oil pan is cracked by the drain plug and is leaking. I have an 06 gsxr 600. Will an oil pan above this year also fit? are they interchangable at all

that sounds promising then. I just found one that was on 06/07 as well. i called a dealer she looked it up and according to her 06 and above all all the same. but i wanted to be sure, never could trust dealer parts dept. 100% di you install yours yet. was it hard as everyone states.

Yeah it's pretty tough. The right way to do it is to drop the motor out of the frame and flip it so you can install the pan drop down style. There is a bracket on the frame that's a pain in the ass to get one bolt through.

Pick up a new metal gasket and some high temp rated, petroleum resistant silicon gasket material. It will leak if you don't use it (I learned the hard way)

Just take your time and be patient.

I installed mine while the motor was still in the frame... So it is possible.

Get some bearing grease to goop onto the oil pickup tube while you're putting the pan on. (It likes to fall out). Also why you're in there, pick up some new o rings for the oil pick up components while you're at it

Good luck broseph

Like 3N stated!

Cracked mine not long ago and believe me it sucks ass! If you don't drop the motor you will need a drimmel to sand down a piece of the oem exhaust bracket. Otherwise you won't be able to take out that 13th screw.

That and you will need someone for extra hands. Definitely a PITA. Good luck brotha.

Well i just inatalled my oil pan yesterday while it was sprinkling. I shaved that exhaust bracket to get that bolt out. I had to take to headers off and just unbolted radiator support brackets to move it up amd down freely. Started it up and no leaks yess. I can now ride again.

You're not welding broken pieces back together. it's just a crack. There isn't any "pressure" in the oil pan. Its just a reservoir. Weld it.

Now I'm not saying go buy a MIG/TIG setup and let it be your first try at welding. If you don't know how and don'thave the setup, take it someplace who/that can do it.

weld it up and retap the threads of its around the drain plug...not a real big deal, u might have to weld a bigger area if the impurities in the cast are present

I had a heck of a time with a side cover one time, but blocks and frames are easy:D

My buddys pan just cracked the same way. They crack cause they are a bit old, and might have cracked cause you overtightened the oil drain screw. But yes remove mounts to where u can rock the motor a bit to take that one screw off that is blocked by the frame
