Every year, depending on who's leading the group, and/or what I decide to do too, it's always a different route, with some of being reapeated Crud Run after Crud run too.
This year, I was gone from my house for 11 hrs.
If I went the quickest way there and back- It would be areound 250 miles.
I rode 320 miles yesterday total. So a lot of it was choice, country twisty roads. Mostly 2nd and 3rd gear on the curves/corners.
On trhe way back my low fuel light started blinking.
IIRC, when it's real low, it just stays on and doesn't blink? Anyways, My bike on the kickstand took 4.2 gallons when we finally stopped at a gas station! Specs say 4.8 US gallons in the capacity.
I felt good all day, wearing just the right type and layers of protctive gear. High was about 83F, but windy too, which helped.
We met for breakfast and to share our writing stories. Many seasoned riders with great histories at this breakfast spot. All those bikes across the street are all Apria RSV4’s.
One of the Aprilia guys – Andrew lead the way to the first meeting in Pine Bluff. We had talked about the route beforehand and he said he had the route in his head. We even mentioned going on Waterville Road on the way there.
Turns out he gets on the highway and goes moderate highway speeds, nothing to get us pulled over, All the way there!.
Due to the fact that we didn’t leave breakfast till almost 9 o’clock I did not mind.
When we got to the first spot it was already packed. Pine Bluff Wisconsin.
I could not take a picture anywhere of the entire gathering at this is way too big.
as we pulled into the crowd to find a parking area, I noticed this guy named Jay who is off and the ride leader.
When we parked I told Andrew that I saw Jay! (Jay is usually at the breakfast stop but was not yesterday.) It would’ve taken us at least another hour to two hours just to get to the first stop lol.
Andrew said oh great he can lead the way to Leland. I went and got Jay who immediately said oh hi Todd, which I felt good he remembered my name. We walked over through the crowd and talk to Andrew and decided to ride with Jay to Leland. There were still about 10-12 riders in the group at that time.
I took that picture of the SL 70 Hondas because I liked them so much as I grew up on them so to speak. Many kids in my neighborhood and the track I rode at for motocross as a kid many of them had us SL70s and I got to ride them all the time.
We had an awesome ride to Leland. There are no interstate between pine Bluff and Leland so just about anywhere you go he’s going to be on some nice country roads. However Jay knows all the best ones! Many of them had a new pavement! I did ride a few miles on a gravel road as well which wasn’t too bad.
When we got to Leland it was packed as well.
about a half mile before we got there we saw on one of the turns a few riders were stopped. We kept rolling so I could not really look over. Jay said there was someone laying on the ground.
At Leland we talked to a couple of policeman who said they’re bringing LifeFlight in and closing that road down for a while. Hope he was OK.
Leland, like pine bluff, Was really crowded but everyone was having a great time. Lots of vintage motorcycles one-off motorcycles ,custom motorcycles, collector item motorcycles etc.
Even my 20 year old K5 1000 got a lot of compliments!
I even saw that Bonelli six-cylinder ride up and got pictures after he parked. six cylinders, three carburetors. It was like a 1970s model. But had two discs upfront. I took pictures of a couple other nice vintage bikes that caught my eye. Literally there were thousands of motorcycles.
There was a running, looked good Warer Buffalo too!
