Quick battery test

Revving with no lights, battery tested should read 13.5V to 15V
Revving, main beam on, there could be a drop but it should still be above 13.5V

It sounds like the battery is gone (should last in excess of 3months though - warranty???
OR possibly loose battery connection (has been known)
broken or disconnected wire or a fault. with regulator/alternator.

A good workshop should be able to test the battery very simply for you though.

 

Sounds to me like the same problem i had... Change out the rectifier/regulator. Make sure and take a look at the connectors from the stator and the regulator plugs to make sure you didn't burn any of the wires up.

 

Thanks for the help guys. I ran a whole new barrage of tests after replacing the regulator. The bike still has charging issues, although not as bad as before. I am waiting on a new stator to arrive, but will post the end result of my work.

At idle, with high beam on, I get ~13.9v across the terminals. (good)
As I, with high beam on, increase RPM to 5500, I get 12.0v across the terminals. (not good)

As I understand it a bike's charging system should go up when I rev, not down. (At least the other 6 people I asked said so.) All my lights "surge"



This I do know:

STATOR ASSY 31401-33E00 is for 96-97
STATOR ASSY 31401-33E10 IS FOR 98-99

I am in a holding pattern for a week untill the new stator gets here. I ordered the wrong one. (Hey, they are both on the same microfiche slide)

 

The diffrence is one has magnets showing the other one is built into the unit. Something like that.

 

Sounds to me like a charging issue. The voltage charging is backwards. Should be 11.5ish idle, 14+ revving.

I have the same problem on my 97 750. so far I have replaced the harness because wires to the regulater where melted. put on a used stator was told it was good and used regulater. still onlt seem to charge at idle nad volts drop when i rev it what was your out come
