Add grease to brand new sealed bearings?

Just ordered front/rear bearings(All Balls brand)...and I've seen where some people pop the factory seal and add a bit of grease to the bearings. They are under the impression that the factory doesn't grease them properly.

Is there any validity to this?

In my experience, that's the worst fucking idea ever. You will almost never get it to seal perfectly again, letting dust and grit into it. Even with a shit ton of grease, dust and grit leads to failed bearings. If they were supposed to be greased before installing, a method would be provided from the factory.

100% correct, do NOT add additional grease to sealed bearings, the proper amount is added at the factory..
From what I have seen/heard, All Balls are kind of the bottom of the barrel as far as quality goes, stay with the major brands (NTN/SKF etc), might be a few $$ more but a better quality product. Ya dont want the wheel brgs giving up when yer in the middle of nowhere..

ive never heard of all balls having issues or of people referring to them as being bottom of the barrel in terms of quality.
as stated above, just pop them in, dont open them up, i just put a set in both sets of wheels i have for my bike, if you havent ordered them yet, check amazon, i found them on there for half the price anyone else sold them at

AllBalls is pretty much the defacto standard for all bearings used while racing...at least at the tracks I frequent.

I have AB bearings in pretty much every bike I own and have never had a bearing related failure. They are very high quality and no, you do not need to add extra grease.

Install them and leave them alone =)

I've had zero issues with mine. Particularly for the price. You could go $400 for a set of Worldwide Ceramics but that's a lot of dough for a bearing.
