ok i just got my new did chain in an was getting ready to put it on when i noticed it had the rivet type connecting link.. i was thinking about just getting one of the clip type connecting links but the guy at the shop said i sould really stay with the rivit type... that means i will have to buy the presser/rivet tool.. so my question is the rivet type connecting link that much better to spend $90 on a tool or should i just spend $5 and get the clip type connecting link...

Iv'e never had a problem with the clip types, and I sure as hell don't baby them either. Just make sure you get the side plate all the way down past the grooves for the clip. Which can be a pain sometimes. I use a C-clamp and a little nut that fits inbetween the posts so you can squeeze it all the way down.

so have you ever had a problem with the clip type.. the way i see it is the pressure on the chain in in the direction of the chain and the side plate should not matter as long as it is in place..

you can use the clip type, just make sure you put the clip on in the right direction.
