Ethanol in bikes

Ethanol is way cheaper right now in sweden than petrol it's at 86 octane - compared to the normal 95 octane. I've already run my car a whole year blending petrol with 25% ethanol without a single sideeffect. I know ethanol has a cleaning effect on the engine - that you need to run a richer mixture than with petrol (i think i should be able to even it out with the choke) and that it's burns better at higher compression ratios.
So in theory it should work fine - bikes have higher compression (i think i picked that up in a forum here).

Anyone run their bike on ethanol? I know there is a lot of complaining going on over your way concerning ethanol - i'm not sure if it's just hipe though...

Anyone with real firsthand experience?

if you haven't tried it, don't bother telling me it's crap. i need better material than that.

(and yes we've already had 12% ethanol mixed in our 'gas' over the past few years)

I know that if you let fuel with more than 10% ethanol in it sit in a carburated bike it'll gum shit up after like 2 weeks of sitting performance will be affected. My local shop is bitching about the ethanol causeing lots of people who don't ride except on nice weekends to bring their bikes in every other month for cleaning, just going on what dude told me though I ride every day rain or shine so it's not really an issue. I try to run only 93 octane in mine so it's your call.

No other imput?

don't most racing-vehicles run on methanol? Is anyone here a chemist? Methanol and Ethanol are both alcohol - so potentialy much more powerful - if i've done my reading right. Chemists?

Of course this thread could be all political brain-dung. In sweden everyone is pro-green = ethanol is the answer to all questions. Over your way - well who cares about ethanol when gas is much cheaper to produce. (no offense intended)

If cleaning the carb is the worst it can do... i might just give it a shot.
(i drive 6/7 days) ;)
